About Me

IMG_3234Hi! I’m Gingi. I’m a photographer, cosplayer, amateur chef, crazy cat lady, anime otaku, bookworm, generic geek, world traveler, conservative Christian, homeschooler, devoted military wife and stay at home new mother of two precious baby girls.

I am on an ever expanding journey into the domestic realm. I am what some call a crunchy mom – I use all natural homemade products when possible, I avoid GMOs and go organic, I don’t vaccinate, I use holistic remedies and I homeschool my kiddos. This blog is the record of my discoveries and projects as I strive to balance my apron-clad Martha Stewart-esque family life with my nerdy indulgences.

A little back story on the Freeman Family: In the summer of 2008 my life changed when I attended a wedding where I saw a really, really, REALLY cute guy. I was too shy to introduce myself and ended up spending the next few months regretting not being the outgoing flirt that I usually am and missing the chance to learn this guys name. A couple months later, at the midnight release of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King in Anaheim, California, I ran into the cute guy again. After learning his name and weeks of stalking him on Facebook (What?! He’s a nerdy Christian conservative geek like me?!), and a generous amount of bullying for a sushi and coffee date, Jonathan Freeman and I fell madly in love and have been inseparable ever since.

Our relationship is unique in that we are equally passionate about our nerdy pursuits, the finer things in life and our Christ-centered domestic domicile. We like to think of ourselves as cultured geeks. It’s not unusual for us to pair a nice wine and cheese and then settle down for an evening of anime and crafting EVA foam armor for cosplay projects.

In October of 2012 we got married in a beautiful small ceremony among the lampposts and Spanish moss in Jackson Square Park in New Orleans, Louisiana. In January of 2013 we discovered that we were expecting our precious daughter Tessa. And on June 4, 2013 my husband left for Great Lakes, Illinois to attend basic training for the Navy (this was when I started my blog!). He graduated August 2nd, and after nine months in Pensacola, Florida for his A School, we are now at his first duty station in Lemoore, California… all ready to start our new life as a Navy family!

babytessaWhile in Pensacola, on September 10, 2013, Tessa – my precious baby girl – was born. She is the most amazing creature to ever grace the planet. I will never know what I did to deserve such an amazing little blessing. Shortly after settling into our first duty station, on March 11, 2015, Thyme – my second precious baby girl – was born. She is the most fascinatingly irreplaceable tiny human you will ever meet.

So! My handsome husband and I are embarking on married life, parenthood, a Navy career and a new home all at once!

I intend to blog about anything and everything that is relevant to chronicle my attempts to be a supermom, stay at home wife, homeschooler and geek girl! If you’d like to get ahold of me – questions, comments, just to chat, whatever – drop me a line at gingifreeman@gmail.com!

Hi Gingi!! Thank you for following my blog and I am now following yours! You’re adorable and I so look forward to your posts!

I noticed we have some commonalities. In addition to having selected the same theme for our blogs, Great Lakes, IL is less than an hour due east of where I live… and I grew up in Pensacola!! I have tons of family and friends there who are full of southern hospitality. I can connect you if you’d like so you don’t have to be in a strange place without knowing anyone 🙂

Yes! I will be there.. though not IN the convention, haha. I was unable to score tickets in the mad dash to get them this year, but I will be in the area to hit some of the outside events.. perhaps we could touch bases and grab a cup of coffee? Thanks for the offer Gynjii. Unfortunately, I will be out of town that weekend and will not be able to photograph Comic-Con this year.

I am sure you have some spots in mind, but I found that the best place to take photos is on 5th street right below the Gaslamp sign. In the mornings and afternoons you get nice open shade as the buildings casts a shadow on the streets. Also if you shoot North-South you can get some nice out off focus backgrounds.

I just checked out your page to view your setup, and I’ll have to tinker around in my WordPress Dashboard setup to figure out how to make it a bit more customized… anyhoo, thanks for adding me to your friends list! Hello DGG! Noticed you doing a few book reviews lately and appreciate your insights. Wondering if you would have time/interest looking at a book I’m currently shopping for publisher (well at least my agent is…). I think it might interest you. Its called the Elephant in the Bar and its about getting over the power of sexual deception. Short work around 100 pages. Could use some help getting the word out and your blog/followers I think would be a good audience for it. Thanks for considering it – know you are a busy woman.

Hello! Thanks for getting in touch! I actually have a STACK of books sent to me for review, and with my upcoming cross country move in less than 5 weeks, I really cannot bite off on any more reading projects. But thank you so much for reaching out, and if you still need someone to bounce ideas off of in 3-4 months, contact me again! Best of luck to you! God bless!

While searching on the net for things to do while your husband is away at boot camp, your blog was one of the first searches I came across. I tell you, after reading your blog about Navy life, it almost felt like I was reading a mirror of my experience so far. My husband and I married almost 8 months ago (his name is Jonathan also, and we’re big comic/Sci-Fi nerds!). He left for boot camp about 3 weeks ago, and I’ve been doing my best to stay busy and stay strong for him and my own sanity. I wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences. They’ve helped me so much!

Seriously, where did the time go? I posted a while back because I was starting to get fidgety and was missing my guy, but now I’m only 2 weeks out from PIR?!? Pretty soon I’ll be checking out your “What to bring to PIR” blog!

My husband went in as an E3. Found out recently that he will be going to school in SC. We’re located in Michigan right now, so you can imagine how grateful I’ll be to get out of the cold! We should definitely keep in touch. Do you have an e-mail address I could reach you at?

Gingi, I love your blog and the way you write it. I have one big, big concern, though. I understand your concerns about vaccinations, although I personally believe they are unfounded today, but I am very afraid for your child if you do not get her protected against measles and polio, but especially polio. I was in my teens when the worst polio epidemic hit, and believe me, it is gruesome what happened to thousands of people, especially those who had to live out their life in an iron lung. Polio is on the rise again, as is measles and other undesirable diseases, around the world. Please, please do not take that chance with your precious daughter. I have had every vaccine offered and have never had an adverse reaction. So have my four children, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. All are just fine and have successfully been protected from the diseases the vaccines are given for. Most recently, I got the anti-shingles vaccine and my husband didn’t. Guess who got the shingles last year? As did a good friend of ours who is experiencing agony with it right now. If you fear autism, that allegation of vaccine causing it is totally unfounded and false. Everything else you are doing is great and I support it. I do hope you will do a great-grandmother a big favor and take my advice. 🙂

I won’t get into the nitty gritty details (well, I will eventually on my blog, lol) but my husband and I both personally know people who suffer from vaccine complications and carry lifetime illnesses from vaccine complications. Additionally, statistically speaking, children that have the shot are more likely to contract measles than children who have healthy immune systems. After weighing our options, I feel the science points towards NOT vaccinating Tessa as the safest option for her. I truly do appreciate your concern, and I feel so touched that you cared to reach out! I feel so blessed! And I don’t want you to think I am brushing you aside – I plan to write much more on this topic once I get back to a desk and my own home (currently living with my parents as our new house closes!) but in the meantime, consider this an IOU? lol. Also, if you have any articles or resources you would like me to consider, please send them my way and I will gladly read them!

Hey Gingi! Thanks so much for coming by and visiting my blog. Interesting one you have here. Little out of my league since I am a 62 year old pastor, married for almost 42 years, two adult daughters, one grandson, totally non-domesticated, cyclist, and all around non-nerd or geek. But I love life and live for Jesus. Live the Adventure!

Hi! I stumbled onto your blog looking at cosplay photos and we turn out to have so much in common, I had to leave a note! ^_^ I, too, am a conservative Christian anime nerd, am married (having my first baby), and actually help administrate in a Natural Parenting/Living group that consists largely of military moms! 😀 I love this blog, and thought, if you were interested, you might like to join our Natural Mom’s group on Facebook.
