I am so crazy excited! I’ve lost 20 pounds on the South Beach Diet in just 6 weeks!
Now, I know that a good 5 pounds of that was proooobably water weight and bloat, but it still feels so frikkin’ good to stand on the scale and see the number dropping so low so quick!
I have been following the South Beach Diet meal plan / meal delivery program, and while there is a lot of work and effort involved in changing bad habits, I have found that it is stupid easy to stick to the South Beach Diet without feeling overwhelming cravings or giving into temptations. In the past 6 weeks, I have only had two “cheats” that I planned well in advance – a small serving of jambalaya for Mardi Gras and a slice of cheesecake for Valentines Day – and I don’t feel deprived in the least!
Here are some of my random reflections / realizations / ruminations on losing 20 pounds in the past 6 weeks:
LACK OF MOTIVATON
Sometimes I didn’t feel motivated to eat healthy and be active, but I had to make a conscious choice to stay the course, and have faith that it would pay off in the end. The quote, “I want to see what happens if I don’t give up” really helped me along!
ABUNDANCE OF MOTIVATION
Every time I weighed in and saw a lower number on the scale, I got SUPER motivated.. but it would usually go away the next day when my number fluctuated. This brings me back to the first point.. some days I didn’t feel motivated, but had to just keep on keeping on!
CLOTHES STILL KINDA TIGHT
I didn’t start to feel a difference in my clothes until about a week ago at the 17 to 18 pound weight loss mark. I don’t know if it’s because I’m still wearing my maternity pants and loose tops (VERY giving!) but I did definitely start to feel lighter at the 10 pound weight loss mark. It’s interesting to note though, that my husband – who joined me on the South Beach Diet six weeks ago! – lost 8 pounds in the first two weeks and went down one full pant size with just 8 pounds lost! So this is most likely something that varies person to person.. I think?
JUNK FOOD CRAVINGS GONE
After the first two weeks or so, I realized that my junk food cravings just disappeared. Eating out, going to parties, and eating in a social setting I didn’t feel any pressure to cheat, or feel as if I was missing out. Another quote that rang true to me was, “Eating healthy is so much easier when ‘I can’t eat that’ changed to ‘I don’t want to eat that’.”
IT’S FREEZING ALL THE TIME
Once I started steadily losing weight, I felt super cold ALL. THE. TIME. I don’t know if this is post partum related, or weight loss related (or maybe a little bit of both?) but I read on the ol’ Google machine that when you lose weight, your thyroid hormone level can dip, making you feel cold all the time. Regardless, I am totally there.
CRAVING WORKOUTS
When I check off another day filled with healthy eating and healthy choices, I find that I can’t wait to work out and be active. It’s like the cherry on top to another successful day on the diet.
HEALTHY PARENTS, HEALTHY KIDS
My kids are eating healthier now that Jonathan and I are watching what we eat and sticking to real, whole foods. Now, I have always kept my kids diet very healthy, but now that Tessa is getting older, I find that I have slowly been giving in to requests for pop tarts and ice cream pops and the like. But now that mommy and daddy are eating healthier, we are renewing our commitment to healthy eating for our kiddos too.
WHY ARE THEY ASKING ME?
People keep asking me what my trick is, and how I am losing the weight so fast. I didn’t expect to have so many asking for my method or advice, especially so early in the game.. shouldn’t these questions come once I’ve shed all 75 pounds??.. but once the questions started piling up, I had the method written out in blog post form so I didn’t have to keep repeating myself, haha! (You can see the secret to the success of the South Beach Diet by CLICKING HERE.)
Overall, I feel VERY proud of my accomplishment so far, and have renewed faith that I can reach my goal weight – and keep it off! Can’t wait to see what I can accomplish in the next 6 weeks!

Beauty and Fashion Freaks
OF COURSE! Thanks for stopping by!
Congratulations! And as to men, they tend to lose weight quicker in the beginning. Sometimes frustrating when you are losing weight together.
I actually lost more weight than him numbers wise, but you could SEE it on him faster! (Of course, he only needs to lose 30 pounds, while I need to lose 75!)
My husband was always able to drop weight faster than I (men have more muscle mass has something to do it I think). I just wanted to congratulate you both on making this choice! Healthy lifestyle pays off so tremendously especially as you age. I’m 63 and actually eat just like this all the time – no “white food” – no rice, wheat, potatoes, corn, carrots, sugar (of course), dairy – swimming 24 lengths 3 times a week along with pilates, weight lifting etc. And I feel every bit as lively as I did at 30. My mind is clear and sharp as ever. So worth it 🙂 We don’t need any white food in our diets – these foods were created to stave off starvation but we in the west don’t live in a time when that is a threat. We have plenty of variety in our food choices. The reason most people are overweight is because they are eating all that variety AND eating foods that were meant to replace these foods in times of scarcity.
Yeah, there was a time when I didn’t think I could EVER survive without eating white foods, as you put it.. but now, I find I don’t even want them!!! <3 <3 Looking forward to this as a full on lifestyle change!
Congratulations my dear!!! I eat too much chocolate last few days :-/
I have finally acquired a taste for chocolate without added sugar (like cocoa nubs and such)! Maybe try weaning yourself off the sugar, since chocolate itself is actually very good for you!
I’m in a weight loss program through my local hospital, and it’s been a year now. I’m SO cold all the time too, so I understand that. LOL I hope you continue to do well, and yay for what you’ve lost already. That’s awesome.

In a wierd way it’s good to hear that I am not the only one freezing all the time! lol!! Good job on your weight loss my friend!
That is amazing! Congratulations on losing 20lbs 🙂

Thanks!! I am so excited!
I am so happy for you, congrats. As for the clothes size, in my past weight losses, I usually found my body ‘assimilated’ and actually got thinner during plateau phases, so that could be it. And if you are building muscle is takes more room than fat.
Hey that would be nice!! Will have to keep an eye on my ups and downs and see how my body is feeling..
Great way to be and showing the kiddos the way too at your sea.
<3 <3
That’s awesome Gingi! And even better that it’s leading you to a more healthy lifestyle overall!
Yeah, I am super jazzed! I used to eat so healthy prior to having kids, and then the kiddos awakened horrible habits in me when I was preggo!!
That’s great, Gingi! If you need help finding those lost pounds, let me know.
Nooooooo!! I never want to see them again!!! 😉
Well done. It’s so good to know you are determined to see this through.
Yeah, I am not giving up on this! <3
Amazing accomplishment – very inspirational!
