Epic Cosplays and Highlights from Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo 2014

Domestic Geek Girl blog was honored to receive a press pass to Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles, California this past weekend, so I grabbed the husband and the munchkin and took to the con floor to scout out the hottest cosplays, sights and sounds to share with you all!
My initial plan was to stalk the autograph tables, since I figured I’d get some great shots with guests of honor such as Stan Lee, Jewel Stait, Julie Newmar, Kevin Smith, Elvira, and more, but I was saddened to learn that the main autograph tables had “No Press / Photography” signs. Boo!!! So instead I trolled the main lobby for some great cosplay shots, which – let’s face it – is the heartbeat of any good nerd con.
Oh! Oh! Oh! Also! My little one donned a chibi Harley Quinn cosplay (courtesy of my mum’s traditional last minute pre-con sewing frenzy) to join my sister in her Harley cosplay. And on Sunday, the Freeman family donned our Willow cosplay (yes, THE Willow cosplay that I’ve been working on for-freaking-ever.. I’m talking, while we were still in Pensacola, Florida) and hit the con floor.
I went as nightgown version Sorsha, Jonathan was swordsman version Madmartegan and Tessa was little Elora Danan. I was AMAZED at how many people actually recognized our cosplay! While it wasn’t the typical “get stuck in a pose forever” cosplay, lots of people chased us down to ask if we were from Willow, or geek out asking for photos over the obscure cosplay, or (most frequently) fawn over and complement our little Elora Danan – who amazingly enough kept her hat / wig on for the ENTIRE DAY, even though she has never, in the entiriety of her existence, kept a hat on for more than 30 seconds.
It was great to finally experience this newer convention that I keep hearing people rave about. This is definitely a “return to” con – especially in light of the inexplicable explosion of San Diego Comic Con and the epic rarity of their tickets. (Seriously, wtf SDCC.)
Anyhoo, if you see your photo, feel free to grab a copy, just leave a comment below and say hi! Thanks again to Stan Lee’s Comikaze for comping my press ticket for the fun weekend! Can’t wait to see you folks again next year!
She sure did love all the pretties…and see, we didn’t have to buy her all of it! She’ll learn that most the time, we are ‘just looking’. BTW, Comic Con is opening their professional pass requests soon. I sent you the email. Get on that so your little girl can go to more cons! 😉
SDCC press is crazy hard to be accepted into. Last time I applied, they required a full outline of what you plan to cover on a professional letterhead.. and even though I submitted to the guidelines, I was still rejected for press. But feel free to enter me again if you want, haha… I don’t take rejection well. *sob sob* lol..
Tessa is much prettier than the character. Just sayin. She had so much fun running around with everyone watching her be cute.
Yeah, she is loving Comic Cons waaaaay too much for someone her age, lol..

Amazing photos, Gingi. Feels like I right there at the con! Which I was wishing I was.
Thank you! It’s always fun taking Comic Con photos!
