Tessa’s Harley Quinn Cosplay

DSC_6194
Confession. I don’t like Harley Quinn. I don’t like the character. I don’t like the Batman series (comics, TV or movies). And I think the overall Harley Quinn cosplay is way overdone at conventions– usually by girls who don’t know a thing about comics.
Am I hating on “Fake Geek Girls”? Maybe just a little bit. (Seriously, one of these days I’m going to do a comic convention documentary where I ask all the stock Harley Quinn cosplayers, “So is Harley from DC or Marvel Comics?” It will be epic.. like all those FOX News liberal college campus interview shorts.)
All of that said, my sister is a Harley Quinn cosplayer. Why? I don’t know. She happens to actually be a legit geek girl, and a pretty good cosplay / prop master, so why she chose to join the hordes of  faker Harley Quinns in the convention-verse, I’ll never know.
HOWEVER! She has a pretty rockin’ costume, and as soon as Tessa was able to toddle, my mum made Tessa a costume to match! The photos in the gallery below are from Stan Lee’s Comikaze in Los Angeles, I forget how many months ago.
Since this convention, my sister has stolen my daughter to be her cosplay counterpart for a number of local conventions, where they’ve entered cosplay contests (and actually won!) and they are quickly becoming one of those recognizable cosplay duos that you see at every other convention in California.
My little stinker even made it into the local newspaper when my sister entered them into the Tulare Sci-Fi Convention cosplay contest. Below are the pictures that made it into the Visalia Times Delta of Tessa and Jessica winning the cosplay competition.

Anyhoo, I realized that I hadn’t yet added this cosplay to the “Freeman Family Cosplays” gallery, so this post it to remedy that. Below are some snapshots I took of Tessa and Jessica at Stan Lee’s Comikaze in Los Angeles. ^_^

So what do you think of my little chibi Harley Quinn? Adorable, no?!

She totally rocked her Harley look! We are comic book geeks and addicted to comic related TV shows. Wen Harley Quinn made her voice over on Arrow recently it was Epic. My oldest daughter screamed when she heard her voice and said Mom that was Harley!!

Yeah, she’s a little ham too! She always poses for cameras and runs around having a blast. And that’s cool that you’re raising little geeklings! 😉

You need to come have her try on the costume I upgraded! It’s got split sleeves with lacings and I’ve added a new ‘Kermit the Frog’ type jagged white collar for the ‘ruff’. Also added the contrasting diamonds too. Do you have the Comikaze costume or do I? You know that Jessi will want to snag both your girls to be her little Harleys! Thyme will be about 7 months old next Comikaze…so we won’t be able to get the same ‘toddler’ pix as these, but she’ll be able to stand with assistance. I’m not a fan of Harley Quinn either (don’t know much about her, except she’s been adopted by the fake geek girls as the go to Halloween costume!). I might watch Arrow (everyone tells me I should) to get to know this ‘other universe’. I grew up with Batman, but it was on TV only, not in comics. Adam West and Burt Ward are going to be at the LA Hollywood Show at the end of the month…with Julie Newmar and other classic Batman TV alumni. I don’t know if they ever did a version of the character on there. Now, that would be a fun take…if there was a ’60s tv cosplay’ to be done. I like that Jessi took the character and made her her own. Her friend sketched it out, I sewed the skirt and top, and she and her friends crafted the armor and she made the mallet. Oh man, I just pictured her making a ‘rattle sized’ mallet for Thyme next comikaze!! You sure you don’t like DC? Jonathan looks good in tights! He could be ‘the Batman’…and have his sis in law out to get him…you could be Batgirl (she was petite)…plus the actress who played her on TV is the sweetest gal ever! If you want to where super tall heels you could do Cat Woman…but then I’d want to mix it up and do the version that has all the white stitches. (and yep, that’s my total knowledge of this franchise!). heh.

You need to help me start work on her Shippo cosplay. Or on Jonathan’s Inuyasha. I need 12 yards of a light to medium weight bright red fabric.. help me keep an eye out for a good deal??

Several questions: 1) Is that your sister’s real hair? 2) and here is the big one: w-i-t-w is harley quinn? But your little girl redeems whoever she is. 🙂

They are definitely a dynamic duo that complement each other well!! Tessa is absolutely adorable as a chibi Harley Quinn!! I love how she even has her own mini hammer! And to answer the question— Batman and all of Justice League are DC. 🙂

Your daughter is adorable! It’s fab that they’re quite the duo now! I don’t mind Harley but I’m not an epic batman fan – it’s just what I’ve seen from the xbox games, ha.

Haha! Tessa is so dang cute, and fearless! Alex would have run screaming for the hills when she saw the makeup and hair. 🙂

I’m looking forward to your geek girl interviews. I love Jesse Watters interviews, they’re hysterical, and somewhat frightening.

LOL, she actually *did* get scared when she first saw her auntie.. didn’t recognize her at all. Then she warmed up by the end of the day, lol!

Adorable, yes. VERY adorable. I do like Harley Quinn and I have Harley Quinn pajamas, but that’s the extent of it. Your sister is most excellent at it. Better than what I’ve seen out there.

Awe! She has to be the cutest little Harley Quinn ever! I agree that Harley is overdone at conventions, but I am happy to see this one geared more towards the comic book version rather then the Suicide Squad version (for some reason I like that one even less)

These are amazing costumes, it’s no wonder that they win the contests!
