Confession. I don’t like Harley Quinn. I don’t like the character. I don’t like the Batman series (comics, TV or movies). And I think the overall Harley Quinn cosplay is way overdone at conventions– usually by girls who don’t know a thing about comics.
Am I hating on “Fake Geek Girls”? Maybe just a little bit. (Seriously, one of these days I’m going to do a comic convention documentary where I ask all the stock Harley Quinn cosplayers, “So is Harley from DC or Marvel Comics?” It will be epic.. like all those FOX News liberal college campus interview shorts.)
All of that said, my sister is a Harley Quinn cosplayer. Why? I don’t know. She happens to actually be a legit geek girl, and a pretty good cosplay / prop master, so why she chose to join the hordes of faker Harley Quinns in the convention-verse, I’ll never know.
HOWEVER! She has a pretty rockin’ costume, and as soon as Tessa was able to toddle, my mum made Tessa a costume to match! The photos in the gallery below are from Stan Lee’s Comikaze in Los Angeles, I forget how many months ago.
Since this convention, my sister has stolen my daughter to be her cosplay counterpart for a number of local conventions, where they’ve entered cosplay contests (and actually won!) and they are quickly becoming one of those recognizable cosplay duos that you see at every other convention in California.
My little stinker even made it into the local newspaper when my sister entered them into the Tulare Sci-Fi Convention cosplay contest. Below are the pictures that made it into the Visalia Times Delta of Tessa and Jessica winning the cosplay competition.
