**Update: Congrats to Rebecca Bushey on winning the $28 Kidecals giveaway! Don’t forget to follow up in the comments with what you decided to order, and what you think of the product!! Congrats again!**

Domestic Geek Girl is movin’ on up! This is my first blog post at my brand new shiny self-hosted domain: domesticgeekgirl.com! (Moved over from domesticgeekgirl.wordpress.com) I started this blog six months ago and in that time have gone from 0 readers to over 1300 and growing. I don’t know how, really. But I’ll just chalk it up to being awesome in the face and say thank you thank you THANK YOU to my readers, friends and family who are supporting me and drawing me back to this blog day after day.

Speaking of “chalk” and “drawing” (see what I did there?) to celebrate this cyber move, I’m going to review a really cool product from kidecals.com, and then follow up with… *drumroll* A giveaway!! *crowd goes wild*

So as many of you know, I’ve gone full retard with the DIY all natural home remedies and concoctions ever since Tessa was born. It’s reached a point where my husband has to ask, “Honey, is this the baby body wash or the massage oil?” when rummaging through our cupboard of unmarked bottles and jars. At one point I actually did buy some paper price tag looking labels to tie around the jars, but it was so cumbersome and annoying to open and close the bottles with a tag trying to weasel it’s way off. I thought of buying mason jar labels, but a cursory glance through my local Hobby Lobby didn’t produce anything beyond paper labels that would cause a sticky mess when it comes time to wash and sanitize the jars.

So enter Kidecals! I received an e-mail offering some free product samples for review. And I said heck yes! I needed labels. I longed for labels. HOW DID THEY KNOW?! (I don’t think I need to state the obvious, but I probably should. While I did receive free product in exchange for yammering about it on my cyber stomping grounds, all opinions expressed are 100% my own.  This review was not coached, guided or written by Kidecals, nor did they provide any suggestions or requirements as to how or what I should write. YOU DON’T OWN ME, SON!!)

Anyhoo, kidecals.com has oodles to choose from, but I settled on a variety of chalkboard stickers. They arrived quickly, and were packaged safely and arrived unbent and undamaged. I unwrapped them, and spent half a day looking at them, sitting beautifully in all their DIY potential and glory, and just circled them like some timid predator sizing up it’s daunting prey.

See, I loathe stickers. I can’t ever seem to be able to apply them straight and wrinkle free. I’m “get it right the first time” challenged. And most stickers are brutally unforgiving with this flaw. The stickier the backing on the sticker, the more it reaches full-blown nemesis status, like, “Oh, you didn’t mean to put me there? No prob, you can just peel me off and try agai… sike! Lol, jk, I’m gonna curl up and render myself unusable now.”

These labels, thankfully, were not the pompous dicks you usually find in stickers. The chalkboard labels are thick, sturdy and with a sticky backing that is solid – so you will still want to apply them carefully – but they aren’t the stick to your fingers, pick up every piece of cat hair in your home before applying type of sticky. If you gently start to guide them onto your jar and find you are making a boo boo, you can generally correct it without it being the end of the world (or a ruined sticker).

Here’s a small pile of my freshly labeled goodies. Don’t let my chicken scratch I scrawled out while holding a wiggly baby deter you. The glossy chalk surface is easy to draw on and even easier to wipe off with a little bit of water. (I went all mom on mine and licked my thumb, scrubbing the chalk surface like a dirty kid face.) If you are wanting smudge proof labels, I’d advise using a chalk pen, instead of the old school powdery blunt edged chalk pieces that I used.

Oh, and did I mention? These bad boys are water poof and dishwasher safe! Uhhhh, WIN.

These would make a great gift for DIY concoctions or baking goods. Adding a chalkboard label to a mason jar or decorative glass storage jar is a great way to give a common DIY gift some extra oomph. Plain ol’ mason jars are a dime a dozen (sometimes, literally!) so this is a great personal touch.

Also! My wedding photographer side has to pipe up and say, these would also be stunning as wedding décor. Plop some of the larger chalkboard labels on a casserole dish for smaller potluck style weddings. Put some labels on vase centerpieces to serve as table numbers and seating guides. Really, the possibilities beyond “label your DIY junk” are endless.

I also want to add, that the cost of these chalkboard labels are roughly the equivalent of buying the DIY sheets of chalkboard stickers on Amazon. The difference is, these are pre-cut, pre-sized and come with fast service and great customer service. I am the kind of DIY mom that weighs the cost and finished product before embarking on a project. If I can get better quality product for the same price, I opt for the better product and save my DIY energies for things that matter – like making toxin free baby wipes, and diaper rash cream.

So I would recommend this product. Which is a huge relief to me, because I secretly feared I’d agree to review a product, find that it sucks, and then have to write an honest review that’s like, “Hey, this is not fantastic, want to sign up for this giveaway?” Yeah. Awkward.

Anyway, enough of my blabbering, and on with the giveaway! Kidecals were kind enough to extend the free sample goodwill to my awesome sauce readers, so please! Sign up for a chance to win some of these awesome labels with a $28 gift code to kidecals.com! (You can enter once a day by tweeting about the giveaway!)

Good luck and again, thanks for reading and making my blogging hobby much more entertaining and worthwhile!

Gingi, I love your blog. I really really adore anything crafty, but heavy on the easy!! I am super retarded at instructions, so it must be simple. And these sound right up my alley. Do they come with some of your DIY recipes, I noticed the stretch mark salve???!!!

I’m planning on posting my stretch mark salve recipe soon!! I just need to tweak the recipe a bit, the mixture is a little too stiff, but I don’t want to dilute the cocoa butter TOO much.. once I get the perfect blend I’ll let you know! ^_^
