Star Wars and Marvel Comics Geeky Themed Diaper Covers
As we walked downstairs to the back lawn of our apartment complex take these pictures of Tessa in her geeky diaper covers, Jonathan said, “You know, when I pictured our baby girl wearing these diapers, I always pictured a baby with, ya know, hair.”
I busted out laughing because, so did I! Our little princess is so fair haired that what little blonde hair she does have is so light and thin as to be near translucent. The only grouping of hair she does have is at the nape of her neck, where her hair gathers into a kind of Hitler mustache of the neck. Nowhere near what I’d imagined (for some reason I always pictured her having LONG hair, right out of the womb.) But my little baldy baby is GORGEOUS. Ahhhh, I have to kiss her! (But I digress!)
I made these diaper covers when I was seven months pregnant using McCalls pattern 6223. Jonathan was in Navy Boot Camp in Illinois at the time, and I was missing him terribly. I was lonely, nervous and anxious about the upcoming cross country move – and not to mention the whole prospect of shoving a tiny human out my lady parts.
I was suffering from some severe pregnancy insomnia, and so I found myself working at my sewing machine till dawn on various baby projects, barely getting in a single seam here and there before my back would spasm and I’d get a burning nervy pain in my lower spine. Then I’d go lay on the couch reading Greg Gutfeld’s “Joy of Hate” till the pain subsided. Then I’d get up and do it over and over and over again.
But when all was said and done I had a lovely pile of nerdy and geeky burp cloths, bibs, blankets and diaper covers. The fabric I used covered everything from Star Wars to The Avengers, to general Marvel Comics. We ended up using the blankets and burp cloths I made literally every single day. (Still using them, in fact.) The bibs never got used. Turns out I find bibs excruciatingly pointless. And the “newborn” diapers I made Tessa? Yeah, they didn’t fit her until, well, last week!
So we dug them out of the bottom of her closet and put on a little fashion show! It was chilly out, so I didn’t get pictures of her in every single one of her diaper covers. So you’ll just have to use your imagination to picture how the others looked.
