Okay you guys, you ready to follow along on my FIRST EVER juice cleanse?!?!?! It’s gonna be fuuuuun! (I think?!)
Yesterday was Day 1 of my juice cleanse and I’m tapping out this post in the wee hours of the morning on Day 2 to recap the previous day. So, you ready? Here we go!
Day 1 Juice Cleanse Recap
Early Part of the Day – I went to bed reeeeally early the night before with the intent to be well rested for my juice cleanse. So of course the kids picked that night to wake up every half hour demanding things of me. I woke up groggy, sleep-deprived, cranky and famished. Which is really weird since I don’t usually feel hungry in the mornings and my first meal of the day tends to be around 11am (and I generally wake up around 6 or 7am). I’m pretty sure the immediate hunger was largely psychosomatic because I was prepping myself to go without food. I weighed myself and weighed in at 162.7. My stomach was feeling pretty bloated from the veggie burger I had the night before that had lots of wheat in it, which I’ve discovered I’m a little sensitive to. So between elevated weight and bloated belly, I am READY for the cleanse!!
It was a work day at my dads (I work for my dad as a process server and office assistant a couple of times a week) and since today was going to be a run around town type day, I packed all 6 of my juices, bundled up all the kids and got ready to head out the door. I was already DESPERATELY missing my morning coffee habit (this is the main worry I have with this cleanse.. I literally drink coffee all day, every day) so I made myself a morning cup of Hibiscus Herbal Tea instead.
Once at my dads office, I had my first juice, the Sumer Shine mix, and OMG it is so far my favorite out of all I’ve tried. It straight up tastes like the Dole Whip Floats from Disneyland. Not even kidding. I felt guilty drinking it, like, this is sooooo good, how can it be slimming??!?! I guess we’ll see..?!
I set a timer on my phone to go off at 8am, 10am, noon, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm to remind me to drink my next meal. The morning started out slow for me (and I was running into some frustrating issues with my work) so the first couple drinks seemed like forever apart. I kept staring at the clock wondering when my next one would be, not because I was hungry or thirsty, but just impatient and flustered.
Middle Part of the Day – I started to get a headache which I am fairly positive is the caffeine withdrawal. I normally drink about 6 to 8 cups of coffee a day, so I was totally expecting this. I took some Tylenol and a caffeine pill and the headache cleared up fairly quickly. I got the desire to eat something solid around 1pm, just after my normal lunchtime. I chugged some water and it went away fairly quickly as well. About the half day mark by day really sped up, I was running around the Central Valley delivering jury summons, so between my head in paperwork and a good amount of car karaoke I was pretty preoccupied and when my alarm would go off I’d think, “Time for another juice?!”. And it really did feel more like a treat than a meal.. these things are wicked good! When I make juices at home I am always more heavy on the greens and so these struck me very much as sweet dessert fruit cocktails than detox drinks. So no complaints here!
End of the Day – A couple of things I noticed. I started to feel really dehydrated, and realized that with the exception for one bottle of water around noon and my morning tea, I hadn’t had ANYTHING ELSE to drink. I was so preoccupied with work and juice that I forgot to really push the hydration. Oops. At this point I’d had almost every single drink while driving in the car. My last juice of the day, the Granddaddy Grapefruit was the only drink that I can say I wasn’t terribly fond of, but then again, I’ve never been overly fond of Grapefruit. But I AM fond of it’s health promoting properties, so I won’t complain!
Around 6pm I noticed I had not had a bowel movement during the day, and was instead just having really rotten smelling gas. Yuck. I also started to feel my energy slow waaaaay down. I had intended to put in a 12 hour work day, but when I got back to the office at 7:30pm I just pulled the plug and headed home with my kiddos. I wanted so desperately to sit down with a hot cup of tea and relax and unwind for a bit but my kids were in MEGA DESTRUCTION MODE and were basically needing to be corralled into bed. By the time I successfully got them all into bed, I just crashed in mine, forgetting (again) to go hydrate myself beyond the juices. I’ll get better about this on Day 2, I swear!
Overall – Juices were tasty, quite good, and great variety. I did not feel bored or deprived flavor-wise. I had some minimal desires to chew on something in the middle of the day, but they weren’t hunger pains, just wanting something to chew.. if that makes any sense?? I didn’t feel hungry at all, in fact. The worst effects of the juicing cleanse so far is my caffeine withdrawal symptoms and feeling low energy later in the day. But overall, not a terrible Day 1! I feel like Day 2 will be about as easy. We’ll see, right?!

Thanks for reading!
Oh my 6-8 cups of coffee wow. I have one cup and that is more then enough, yup headaches for sure. I have always wanted to do something like this but with low blood sugar and intestinal problems there is no way I would ever be able to pull this off.

Yeah, I know, I have a major coffee addiction, lol… I really wish I didn’t!!! But I can’t seem to scale back!
You are so inspiring! I’ve never done a juice cleanse and not sure if I would make it through! Good luck with the rest of it!

Thank you so much! I did great, except for one indiscretion with coffee, haha! 😉
I’ve done a few short juice cleanses before and they actually really helped me feel better. I do remember having quite a few fantasies about food while I was on the cleanse, but I didn’t feel too bad until the end. I hope your cleanse goes well.

It was opposite for me.. it was rough starting and then it got easier toward the end, lol!
I did a juice cleanse once. It was the worst time of my life lol. Of course I had to wash, chop, and juice the fruits and vegetables myself. The cleanup was a nightmare! These would have been so much more convenient!
Yeah, I think I will ONLY buy from reputable companies for future juice cleanses! NO WAY I’m gonna do all that myself lol
Oh wow! I could not go through with it! Keep strong!
Always wanted to try a juice cleanse but have yet too. I do know all about dehydration…just lost 11 pounds on an 11-day trip that included 4 days of norovirus and not being able to eat after! But the trip was awesome.
