Broken Laptop + Broken Desktop + Broken TV = Franken-Puter!

Technology hates us. It didn’t used to hate us. But I dunno. We did something to anger the techno-gadget gods or something. Maybe it’s my crunchy kick? Technology is like, “You want to clean with vinegar and wear minimalist shoes? Yeah, well TAKE THAT Gingi’s laptop!”

Within the past year, here is the grand master list of major electronics that have died and / or broken on us:

My primary camera lens. The Xbox. The PS3. My cell phone. Our TV. Jonathan’s desktop. And the grand finale was returning from my trip to visit family in California, and finding that Southwest Airlines had busted my laptop screen, rendering it unusable.

This wouldn’t be so much of a problem if it weren’t for the fact that when we DO have money to spare on gadgets, what do we spend it on? A $250 robot mom for Tessa (aka, the Mamaroo, which I totally recommend btw). All our things are belong to Tessa now. ALL OF THEM.

We reached a point where we were sitting on the couch, like frikkin’ cavemen, with no TV to watch, no videogames to play, no computer to connect to, only each other and our imaginations to entertain us… utterly barbaric.

That’s when inspiration struck. You know the old adage; necessity is the mother of invention. So Jonathan set to work creating: Franken-puter!! He took our broken TV (the HDMI port broke and can no longer play sound, but the screen works fine), his broken computers keyboard and mouse, and my broken laptop and made me this ridiculously pompous and overblown workspace that I just love love love!

That’s my man! He always fixes things in the most innovative ways. Like one time before we were dating, I dreamed I was being attacked by a bear, and Jonathan showed up and chased it away, and it crashed through some random fence in the forest, and Jonathan (now suddenly shirtless) pulled out a hammer and a nail and started fixing the fence without breaking stride. SEE?! Jonathan is a chaser of dream bears, a scantily clad mender of fences and a fixer of broken technology. A true 21st century provider!

So all is not dismal technology-wise in the Freeman house. We did grab a Black Friday deal on a 46” Samsung Smart TV (SUPER SHARP) and my mom got me a replacement camera lens for an early Christmas gift (an essential for wedding photography). And I’m due for a phone upgrade in just a few months. We’ll slowly rebuild our fortress of excessive technology. Emphasis on slowly. (Babies ain’t cheap.) Just an Xbox and PS3 to go..

I am going to venture the guess that is why I could not find your blog the other day.

That, believe it or not, was due to my website reaching capacity and my server host crashing, haha! Talk about good bad news!!

I used to follow the Freecycle group in the Central Valley of California, but it was just waaaaay too much drama for me, haha. People were grabbing stuff to resell and there was a lot of bickering and in-fighting going on. So I just kind of washed my hands of that group. But I may take a look at the Pensacola Freecycle, give it another whirl! I actually have a couple goodies I need to get rid of…
