Conscious Step: Buy Organic Socks that Give Books!

Socks are pretty much my favorite thing, ever.

No, really. I am addicted to socks. And everyone knows it. Every birthday, Christmas, Mothers Day and so on, I get showered in my favorite article of clothing – lovely, glorious, comfy socks! I envision myself as an old 1950’s Scrooge McDuck swimming in his money bin of coins… only with socks.

I am such a sock junky that I have had to buy a 30 cell sock organizer and literally limit myself to JUST 30 pairs of socks, otherwise I would be swimming in more socks than I know what to do with! And since I am limited in my sock collection, I have grown to become VERY picky about which socks I keep in my drawer, and which ones go to Goodwill.

While paring down what pairs of socks I keep (haha, see what I did there?) I have come to realize that the ultimate socks is:

  • Made of natural fibers
  • Made with organic materials
  • Made in a fair wage, fair trade, and cruelty free environment
  • Well-made and comfortable
  • Cute!

While searching for the PERFECT sock, I stumbled upon Conscious Step. And I kind of went a little crazy (in a good way!). Not only does this company hit all of the above points in the ultimate sock, but they took it above and beyond, by partnering with non-profits for every purchase, making each pair of socks you buy also do some good in the world.. all while still keeping their socks reasonably priced! Say whaaaat?!?! No, seriously, check them out!

About Conscious Step

From the Conscious Step website (CLICK HERE to visit):

We believe that we have a responsibility to create clothing that makes you feel good about what you wear. It’s more than how it looks, feels and lasts, but knowing that it’s creation didn’t happen at the expense of people and planet.

Our cotton growing and sock manufacturing occurs in the states of India. Manufacturing there allows us to benefit from India’s organic cotton expertise (growing 80% of the world’s organic cotton) and to support small cotton farmers. Our products are made with organic cotton and our entire supply chain is GOTS and Vegan certified. The crops are not treated with herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, and are not genetically modified.

No child labor, minimum wage compliance, overtime compensation and freedom of association for workers. Because all humans deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Our products are all Fairtrade Certified.

End Illiteracy and Provide Books with Each Purchase

Conscious Step provides multiple sock design options, with each design linked to a non-profit partnership that gives back. You can buy socks to protect the oceans, socks that give water, socks that plant trees, socks that fight hunger, socks that fight malaria and so on. These particular socks are socks that give books and each purchase is partnered with “Room to Read”.

Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, they develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.

According to Room to Read:

Literacy is the foundation for all future learning, yet there are still 750 million illiterate people in the world. Two thirds are women and girls, and an additional 250 million are not learning in primary school.

Education is the key to a healthier, brighter future:
• 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty if all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills
• A child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to survive past the age of five
• Income per capita is 23% higher in countries with more equal education

Since 2000, Room to Read has benefited more than 11.5 million children. Over 3,226 schoolbooks have been provided.

Good Socks, Good Causes, Good Times

I was so excited about finding this company that I immediately reached out and asked if I could blog about them. I really could not wait to share this company with you guys! If you love cute and comfortable socks, you are going to love these organic beauties from Conscious Step.

Hubby and I have been using our socks as house socks to lounge around the home in, they are perfect for everyday wear – warm enough to keep you cozy, but not so warm or bulky that they feel hot. And they are super cute too!

There are so many emotional and psychological nuances that go into why we buy what we buy, why we like what we like, and just how much we are going to enjoy something we decide to take into our home. Knowing that your purchase had an impact on a child in need somewhere, knowing that your socks were a wise investment into a better world and better-for-you article of clothing.. man! What a difference that knowledge makes in how you view and enjoy your purchase! Giving back FEELS GOOD. That’s not just an observation, that is a fact.

These organic, fair trade socks are well made, cute, and comfortable and are helping others in need… which in turn is making our world a better place! If you haven’t yet CLICK HERE to visit the Conscious Step website and browse their selection of socks!

I would spend my money on these socks for sure. I also have a huge collection and gave away 6 pairs last year to a young child who collects them and donates them, without even denting my collection.

One of my favourite things in the world is putting on a brand new pair of socks – there is no feeling in the world like it! I love that you have to limit your socks, I have the same problem, but with hot sauce. Ha! Love these socks, and the cause, so I am going to check out the site! Love your blog, by the way. Looking forward to reading more. 🙂

LOL who knew you were a socks freak! I personally am happiest barefoot or in sandals. Non-sandal season means sock and closed shoes…makes me miserable. but cute socks are cute and these have a much bigger impact.

    • 21 February, 2018 at 7:44 pm

Yeah, I’m usually barefoot or in socks!! But I lean towards socks! 😉

  • 22 February, 2018 at 2:10 pm

Love these, I’ve been having more fun with sock lately and these are great. Thanks!
