Have you guys ever seen that meme that has been circulating around Facebook these days? The whole, “How they dress girls today VS. How my parents dressed me? Wait, here, let me find it on the Google machine and post it:
There! That’s the one. Yeeeeeeah. No offence to my mom, who had limited girls fashion outlet choices, but I was an 80’s baby and my childhood photos very much reflect it. Haha.
Here is where I shake my fist at the heavens and vow that no child of mine shall wear lopsided top-of-the-head ponytails and New Kids on the Block inspired neon windbreakers!
Kids nowadays (or more specifically, their parents) have a wealth of adorable girls fashion resources at their fingertips.. oh the marvels of the internet! I have recently been introduced to an online children’s boutique that specializes in couture and folk style designer children’s wear.. a style that really speaks to my heart as an artsy fartsy old school nature gal who also loves modern fashion.
I received two shirts (one for each daughter of mine) from Rylee and Cru, one of the many designers with LaBella Flora Children’s Boutique. So first, more about the boutique!
About LaBella Flora Children’s Boutique
From the LaBella Flora Children’s Boutique website (CLICK HERE to visit!):
LaBella Flora Childrens Boutique is an exquisite childrens boutique designed to provide beautiful clothing just for girls. We carefully select each and every item of clothing for our store to bring that unique touch to that special little girls life. Our desire is to bring a selection of the most beautiful clothing directly to you.
We at LaBella Flora Childrens Boutique have been touched by adoption, which has blessed us with three beautiful children. After the adoption of our youngest daughter Savannah Flora from the Philippines, our minds often returned to the children who remained at the orphanage. As a stay-at-home mom and later as a teachers aide, I found it difficult to donate as much as I had hoped to the orphanage which had cared for my precious daughter.
After researching small business opportunities, it was decided that an online boutique would be the perfect fit. From day one, we committed to sharing our profits with children in need.
More About Rylee and Cru
From the LaBella Flora website (CLICK HERE to view the entire Rylee and Cru collection):
Winning hearts with ethereal designs, Rylee and Cru comes to the market with a look that is all their own. This brand was birthed by the imagination and passion of illustrator Kelli Murray. Her creations are modern and muted, cutting through the noise to stand out on their own. The simple colors are found on a light earth tone pallet and are simple to pair. The pieces often are covered with smaller prints that often introduce just one other color to the look. The beauty of the brand is that it births such elegance in simplicity. This is facilitated by the fact that these designs come from the mind of an artist, an illustrator. Kelli Murray knows how to make design come alive; she excels at ensuring nothing in the Rylee and Cru collection is overstated or over done. It is a magical gift to be able to share pieces from your imagination that inspires creativity in all who see it. This is a gift that abounds in every top, dress, romper or outfit from Rylee and Cru.
Important to every mom and daughter alike, the fabrics that are used in the outfits are high in quality and comfort. Many of the staple pieces boast of a soft, slub knit in 100% cotton. With nearly 100,000 followers, Rylee and Cru launched to vast popularity with their styled Instagram feed that features their pieces in front of clean backgrounds or modeled in a natural landscape. With every release, flocks of fans are drawn to pick their favorite pieces for their little ones. First time buyers will be hooked for life once they receive their first purchase. Every style is cut for a slouchy, comfortable fit that is too adorable!
My Daughters Totally Rocking the Look
My daughters, Tessa and Thyme (aged 4 and 2), are little nature loving tomboys. I am talking, dig around for bugs and letting them crawl all over their hands, making mud pies, catching wild animals, climbing trees and doing-all-the-things tomboys. I LOVE IT. They make me so proud on so many levels.
Now, I have tried to dress them in bows and frills and lace.. and while they look adorable in these trappings, it doesn’t take too long before the clothes peel off, and they are out and about tumbling and rough housing and being their beautiful, wild and unfettered selves. So I wanted to get them some quality clothes that reflect their playful, whimsical and practical natures, and I was pleased to find this quality in Rylee and Cru designs.
So for Tessa, I chose the Rylee and Cru Sly Fox Basic Tee (CLICK HERE to view or purchase). Tessa is quite smitten with foxes – a combination of them being a favorite woodland creature in children’s wear these days, and that dang “What Does the Fox Say” video is to thank for that, I am sure. So needless to say, Tessa loved this shirt. The 100% cotton grey slub knit is extremely soft, and the short sleeves frame her neckline nicely. The black screen printed fox is also quite charming, and nicely applied, this is a quality shirt for sure.
For Thyme, I chose the Rylee and Cru Free Bird Tee (CLICK HERE to view or purchase). This shirt comes in a sweet blush peach featuring a large dove printed on the front, with an olive branch in its beak and “Free Bird” written beneath. Short sleeves and a classic neckline complete the slouchy and boxy fit of this 100% cotton top. This top looked especially flattering on my little Thyme, and I was very impressed by the craftsmanship in the garments construction – the seams on the back are intriguing and well made.
Overall, I am impressed with the selection and quality of the Fall 2017 releases. There is a great selection of clothing ranging from ultra-girly to sweet and tomboy (while still being feminine and delicate). If you haven’t yet, be sure to pop on over and give their newest releases a quick look-see!

The girls look adorable mini fashionista too cute
Right?! They are gonna be a handful, I can tell!
Your kids are perfect models, great post my dear 🙂
Thanks, I am so proud of my little mini models! <3
Lol! I can relate though what we wore is still trending, but what’s funny is that it’s trending in adult clothing, LOL! Hello waist bag pants, bold stripes, and graphic sweaters! Anyway, this brand sounds fantastic, I’ll have to keep them in mind for Aviah. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week, girl!
XO,
Jalisa
Hahaha, Jonathan and I were just talking about that the other day! Fashions keep coming around.. but I didn’t anticipate the KIDS fashions to come back! haha!
Oh gosh, I love the shirts your two girls received. I really like foxes too. 😉
My mom, bless her heart, tended to dress me in matching clothes that are not very fashionable. LOL And by matching I mean top and bottom went together.

LOL, I have to admit, I do not look back too fondly on most of my clothing selections, up to being a pre-teen. The one I shudder at the most is the overalls with one strap unhooked.. *shudder*
The shirt prints are lovely, I will definitely get one for my girl too! Cute!

Ohhh, you will have to share photos with me!!
Gingi, your kids are beautiful!
Thank you!! I tend to agree, but then again I am a bit biased. 😉
What gorgeous pictures and great clothing too!
Have a lovely day 🙂

You too sweetie, thanks for stopping by my blog! <3
Oooohhh, your daughters are sooo sweet and cute, and I loved the concept of LaBella Flora Boutique! Its so good to have more options today, but I cannot complain about the way my mother dressed me 🙂 As I was an only daughter, I was pretty much spoiled looking like a tiny doll – I am short 🙂 But I loved playing, dealing with sand and so on, and my mother told year after year that “she looked like a doll in the first mili-second and after that, God knows what happened!” I would rather wear T-shirts, I think kids have to feel comfortable! Well done! Hope you have a nice day!

Haha, I would LOVE to see some photos of you as a kid! Do I smell a new blog post for you?!?! hehe! In all honestly, you still look like a pretty doll, hehe. 😉
Kids definitely have way more fashionable options now than when we were growing up. Your daughters look super cute and stylish!
Thanks Rowena!! Now if only I can keep them from getting their clothes DIRTY!! haha
That meme cracks me up! Both tees are really cute 🙂
Yeah, I saw it on Facebook awhile back and was like… FACT!!! haha
You’re kids are adorable. 🙂 I would have to agree, our moms didn’t do too well in dressing us.
I don’t think they had much of a choice, especially in the 80s! haha
Unfortunately, this is how I was dressed in the 80s as well 🙂 So much has changed for the better, your girl looks adorable in these outfits!
Miriam x
Hahaha, did you get the neon fabrics and mismatched socks too? 😉
Adorable snapshots of those clothes! I know, I was a 70’s/80’s kid and the worst dressed out there. Atari Jacket, yup, silver bling and all, that was me. Nothing against my mom either, but how could she! They make the cutest clothes today!!!
Hahaha, 80s kids unite!!! Whats sad is.. now all those things are coming BACK into fashion! Oy evey!!
Haha, child of the 80s here too wearing mostly hand-me-downs, ugh! Love the options for girls today and the pictures are adorable!
I didn’t realize there were so many of us… maybe we should start a club?! With a secret handshake?!?!?! hahaha…
Aw these photos are the cutest! <3
Thanks!!! <3 I think my kiddos are the cutest, but then again, I am biased, haha…
I don’t understand fashion. Perhaps if I wore clothes. . .
Ahhhh, see, there is you problem.. although I assume nudity in and of itself is it’s own fashion statement…? 😉
I wouldn’t consider it nudity. It’s more of a natural fur look.
i haven’t seen that meme before, but can definitely relate lol. i had a bowl cut as a kid, and it’s basically like how it sounds: my parents plopped a bowl upside down on my head, and used it as a guide for where to cut. my grandma apparently commented that she had never seen such straight bangs 😅
LOL, they used an actual bowl for your bowl cut?!?! That is epic, lol!!! I would love to see photos of that, haha! 😉
Very interesting post!
Have a nice Sunday!

That concept of the way people dress their children now vs. a few centuries back made me laugh.
