My oldest daughter Tessa was never really daunted by a full sized toilet.
She was eager to try the big girl toilet before she had the vocabulary to express it. As new parents, we figured we still had to go about this whole potty training business the ”right way”, and American marketing aimed at new parents told us that what we needed was a fancy toddler toilet.
So we bought her a potty training toilet that she used a grand total of ZERO times. She just always wanted to use the real thing. (That, or I may have traumatized her while pulling the the toddler toilet out of the box, I slammed her in the face with the seat.. but I like to think she doesn’t remember that unfortunate occurrence.)
Now at 3 years old Tessa is fully potty trained in the daytime now (with isolated and occasional oddly willful accidents here and there) and we are looking at getting her started on nighttime potty training real soon.
This night time potty training is coming right on the heels of my youngest daughter, 1 ½ year old Thyme, who is just approaching toilet training age. The thing is, Thyme is scared silly over toilets. It is so strange. Like, omg, it’s a freaking toilet. Chill out.
We dont really feel like wasting more money on a toddler toilet that never gets used, so we are doing what we can to help Thyme get over her fear of toilets. So with one toddler potty training, and one kiddo learning to use the toilet at night, the concept of making the toilet bowl easily approachable – like, glowing pretty colors in the toilet bowl approachable – is quite simply a magical concept. (Ohhhh, how adulthood changes our perception of things!)
About the IllumiBowl
The IllumiBowl is the first toilet bowl night light in the world. As seen on ABC’s Shark Tank, the IllumiBowl is a motion-activated toilet night light designed to make late night trips safe and easy. It’s popular among potty training families and elderly.
It helps solve a problem that hundreds of millions of people experience daily… night-time blindess! IllumiBowl fights off the boogie man in style!
The Illumibowl is actually a Kickstarter success story. The folks at Illumibowl raised an impressive $95,399 with 3,297 backers! Because of the incredible support of kickstarter backers, mentors and customers who have helped along the way, Illumibowl went from a young college student’s simple idea to a worldwide brand in less than a years time!
Here is more about the IllumiBowl from Amazon.com (CLICK HERE to view / purchase):
IllumiBowl (As Seen On Shark Tank) is a motion-activated night light for your toilet. It fits on the rim of any toilet and turns itself on and illuminates the inner bowl any time you walk into the bathroom at night. No more blinding midnight lights; stumbling around in the dark; falling in the toilet; or aiming in the dark and making a mess! Finally!
Using the IllumiBowl
This little gizmo is pretty straightforward. It requires 3 AAA batteries (not included), and fits any toilet by bending the wire to shape over the rim. The 8 ccolored lights rotate, and you can set which one you like with the click of a button, then choose brightness by holding the button down.
I had set the light to blue, but Tessa insisted we let the colors rotate. She spent the first hour with this light installed with her head in the toilet watching the colors. Then she spent the second hour sitting on the toilet trying to pee and poop on all the colors. I am not even joking.
”I am going to pee of the red!! Ohhhh man. It changed to green. That’s okay, I will just pee on the green! Ohhhh! Blue! I poop on blue!! ” < —- (actual exclamations of my three year old)
I explained to Tessa that if she needs to go to the bathroom at night, this bowl will be lit up for her, so she can go potty on the pretty colors. This just made her YEAR. She actually tried to jump into bed, so she could go to sleep and wake up to poop on the colors. (You cannot make this stuff up.)
Like, the three year old endorsement of this would look great as an endorsement excerpt:
”Me poop on the colors!” – A three year old
Anything that helps to make going to the bathroom fun is a major plus in potty training toddlers. We have only just installed the Illumibowl, but already my three year old loves it, and the one year old isn’t acting terrified of the toilet now.. especially seeing her big sister having such a blast. So overall, it is a great aid in potty training!
