Top 10 Hottest Male Video Game Characters

So as much as my husband and I pride ourselves on being a big ol’ bunch of geeky geeks, we have been living without a working video game console for, oh, about two or three years now.
We actually have every video game system under the sun in our home – Xboxes, Playstations, Gamecubes, handheld consoles, etc. etc… but they’re all broken. I’m not even joking. You have to look at the pile of dead consoles to really grasp how strange this all really is. It’s like a couple of years ago technology just decided it hated us, and then one after another some evil spirit of gaming decided to go all ape-shit on our house and hex our entertainment boxes.
Anyway, all of that is to say, we bought a brand new PS4 for our household a few weeks ago, so we are a gaming family once again! Well, kind of.. so far it’s just my hubby playing here and there after work. I’ve been too busy with upcoming baby plans and new goats to allow myself to obsess over a new video game… so I’m just saving up all the raw fan girl passion for the new Kingdom Hearts game.
This blog post was inspired from my watching my husband play through Dragon Age. I was just floored by the new graphics and all the details in the characters costumes and features, and I found myself kind of ruing the fact that the lead character is just so, well, plain. I started thinking, they just don’t make video game guys like they used to.
Don’t get me wrong, I am actually quite thrilled with the new trend of utilizing the newer video game graphic technology to create realistic looking characters with scars, flaws and very human features. I’d actually rather my children grow up with characters that are more human and realistic, physically speaking. But there’s just some nostalgic 15 year old part of me that misses the flawless pretty boys and impossibly perfect badass men.
Before you start thinking I’m some shallow boy crazy housewife, I should probably point out that my husband helped me to compile this list. Which is kind of awesome or disturbing, depending on how you look at it. 😉
Anyhoo, without further ado, check out our picks for Top 10 Hottest Male Video Game Characters!! (Yes, they areoverwhelmingly Squaresoft characters, because let’s face it, that company knows how to do pretty.)

So I don’t play video games, but I’ll share it with my Hubs who should appreciate it. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little airbrushing, even for video game characters.

    • 7 February, 2015 at 3:41 am

Yeah, the airbrushed look can be super dreamy.. the new characters are SO DETAILED though, you can see freckles and flaws and everything, it’s crazy!

    • 7 February, 2015 at 3:49 am

I think Cloud is everyones favorite! hehe.. They did a REALLY good job animating him in Advent Children!

  • 6 February, 2015 at 10:08 pm

My girls were and are STILL in love with Sora! One of the best games we played as a family!

    • 7 February, 2015 at 3:50 am

Kingdom Hearts is seriously THE BEST video game on the planet! It is hands down my absolute favorite, and yes, we’ve played it through as a family MANY times, hehe.. make sure you let your girls play Kingdom Hearts 3 when it comes out this December!!!

  • 6 February, 2015 at 11:32 pm

Your post took me down memory lane :). I don’t have the free time to play video games anymore, but I played the heck out of most of these 🙂

    • 7 February, 2015 at 3:51 am

Yeah, I can’t even find time for things like World of Warcraft, that don’t really require a set amount of game time to be fun.. ugh! Being a grown up stinks sometimes! hehe

  • 7 February, 2015 at 12:18 am

Must confess that since my son isn’t living here any more I didn’t come near a running video game (rarely watch TV either), and haven’t ever heard about the games you describe, but it is very interesting to get a glimpse :))

    • 7 February, 2015 at 3:59 am

lol, yeah, these images pretty much summarize my teen years. 😉 I had SUCH a crush on all these characters at one time or another!

    • 7 February, 2015 at 4:03 am

      Thanks! You too girl! <3

  • 7 February, 2015 at 3:21 am

this is so funny! And a lot of them are very sexy! I have to agree. No more mario and Luigi.

    • 7 February, 2015 at 4:05 am

What’s funnier is my husband Google searching “Hot Video Game Guys” and launching into a somewhat intellectual(ish) conversation with me on what constitutes “hot” versus “pretty boy”.. haha

  • 7 February, 2015 at 5:54 am

I haven’t played video games in a very long time. What gets me is how realistic these characters look!

    • 7 February, 2015 at 3:12 pm

Yeah, it’s crazy how far technology has come!!!

    • 7 February, 2015 at 2:52 pm

I don’t play video games so I can’t really relate to this but I loved reading the post anyway!

Buuuut, they ARE hot, right?? lol

  • 7 February, 2015 at 11:18 am

OMG love Prince of Persia – so fangirling here! Love this post 😀

    Choc Chip Uru

    • 7 February, 2015 at 2:55 pm

I really only liked the first game (not a huge fan of Warrior Within) and I STILL have not seen the movie! lol!

  • 7 February, 2015 at 4:49 pm

I love this post I had so much fun reading it. It made me remember when home computers hit the market as I was a kid. Giana sisters (1987), Bubble bobble, California games and so on games we loved. I showed my godson these games – he could hardly see what it was. Talk about pixels and graphics 😉 Time changes but the guy I see most is Steve from Minecraft lol. Of course I play Borderlands, Skyrim and earlier WoW. Anyway I think you picked a nice bunch of hunks 😀

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:06 pm

Ohhhh, what did you play in WoW?! Hubby and I play off and on and we are considering starting to play again! And yeah, I started playing video games back when home PCs were starting to become a thing.. I was about 10 years old and the hottest thing was Wolfenstine on PC and the ORIGINAL Legend of Zelda on Ninetendo NES, haha! Love the “spouse approved” sign off, hehe. My hubby had fun with this blog post! 😉

      • 8 February, 2015 at 10:39 pm

Hehe, yeah WoW is fun! But I am a bit of an on-off player so I couldn´t keep up. And playing solo isn´t the same thing. My spouse doesn´t want to play online so we play couch co-op or realms.
In WoW I was a night elf druid with herbalism, alchemy and first aid skills. Don´t remember which talent spec. What are you playing in WoW?
Btw awesome that you are back in the gaming loop again 🙂

        • 9 February, 2015 at 4:43 am

My main in WoW is a human warlock, but my second is a night elf hunter! Hubby and I usually play on our laptops on the couch, it’s pretty fun! I have mixed feelings about signing up again, because it is SUCH a time drain, and with a baby on the way in like, less than a month?! PROBABLY not the best idea to sign up right now.. haha. But I’m aching to try the new expansion!!
If we play again, you have GOT to come play with us!!! 😉

          • 9 February, 2015 at 9:07 am

😀 It is time draining to play and you easily get soaked up by the game. To be honest that was one of the reasons I quit WoW. Besides gaming it takes a lot of time reading to manage to play it “right”. I would love to play again. But I think it is better to wait until the baby gets older. Since I believe we are expecting a little busfrö (don’t know the english word – close to imp or gamine said with love and sweetness) lol But one day I probably end up in the WoW world…

          • 9 February, 2015 at 2:26 pm

Yeah, my husband likes to tease that I play WoW more like Sims sometimes than an actual MMORPG.. Yeah, I think it’ll be awhile before we play. But it stinks! Cuz I want to go to Blizzcon here in California and cosplay as our characters! And how cute would the babies look as mini night elfs?! lol!

          • 9 February, 2015 at 7:54 pm

Awww, how cute they would look – mini night elfs <3 Can't you go there anyway? Or do you have to be an active player? I would love to see you as an awesome night elf family 🙂

          • 9 February, 2015 at 8:13 pm

You can go anyway and hang out in front.. it’s getting the actual tickets that’s hard! And they are EXPENSIVE.. somewhere around $400 a person!! YIKES!

          • 9 February, 2015 at 8:31 pm

WHAT?! That was unbelievably expensive :S Then I understand your doubts. But it would be cute though… Sigh…

          • 9 February, 2015 at 8:58 pm

One of these days!! Its on my bucket list, lol!

  • 7 February, 2015 at 10:55 pm

Okay Gingi, this post made me laugh out loud. You are too funny! I’ll play, I think Snake is the hottest, then Dante, and then the Prince. The rest are too feminine for my tastes. 🙂

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:11 pm

LOL, yeah, as I was compiling this list I realized, oh man, I have a thing for the pretty boys!! haha.. my husband always gets all whiney whenever we plan new cosplays and I plan out the “pretty boy” characters for him.. Seriously, even my Domestic Geek Girl blog banner, of me and my husband kissing in costume at the coast cosplaying Yuna and Tidus from Final Fantasy? I had to drag him by the hair to cosplay that character because he was like, “He’s so girly!!!” lol!!! 😉

  • 7 February, 2015 at 10:57 pm

Clearly I don’t do video games because I didn’t know a single one of these guys – actually I’ve only heard of a couple of the games. My boys do video games some but they tend to go in spurts and don’t spend that much time playing them I guess.

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:15 pm

I am in the “playing in spurts” mode right now. Back when I used to to martial arts I would play fighting games like Soul Calibur or Tekken to get “in the mood” for a good sparring match, haha! With a little one, and tons of things to do before the new baby arrives? I just can’t bring myself to get into a new game, since I tend to get obsessed! haha

  • 8 February, 2015 at 1:09 am

You got some great choices there from what I see 🙂 I haven’t played any of the games you mentioned, I guess I’m just too old, but I can totally agree to the fact that hubby plays while I ‘work’ (in the kitchen etc) LOL
And the pretty boys totally remind of the pretty characters in Japanese anime. Sometimes you have to look twice to see if they’re male or female (unless, of course, there’s the typical big knockers ;))

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:19 pm

LOL, now I have to ask how old you are? I’ve been noticing lately that everyone thinks I’m way younger than I am.. I’m going to be 30 this summer. 😉

Yeah, the Final Fantasy characters are from Squaresoft which is a Japanese company. I am TOTALLY down with the JPop culture, hehe…

      • 8 February, 2015 at 7:13 pm

        You ARE young!
Trust me when I say I am old, I could easily be your mom. Going to hit the big five-o next year… But you can never be too old to 1) have fun and 2) play games 😀

        • 9 February, 2015 at 4:38 am

I seriously thought you were younger than me, haha!! Now I feel silly! 😉 You’re online persona is very youthful!! And yes, I agree with points 1 and 2! ^_^

          • 11 February, 2015 at 10:58 pm

Good answer 🙂 I was wondering how you would get yourself out of that one 😉

          • 11 February, 2015 at 11:40 pm

            Hehehehe! I’m serious though!!!!

  • 8 February, 2015 at 4:16 am

My husband used to play a lot of games so I know a few of these characters. I actually like Link from Legend of Zelda Series as he reminds me of Peter Pan, one of my favorite characters as a child!

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:22 pm

Yeah, I always think of Link as more of a little boy, I totally get the Peter Pan reference… I wasn’t even going to add him to this list, but my husband made me. Conversation went something like this: “I don’t want to add Link, he’s too much of a little boy!” Husband – “Are you kidding me?! He’s totally hot! Add him!” lol…

  • 8 February, 2015 at 6:02 am

I don’t play video games but a guy I know loves them… I will have to share this with him, he is always looking for other games… xox

I hope everything is going well for you Gingi… have a fabulous weekend xox <3

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:24 pm

These are all old school games from my teen years.. but yeah, feel free to share! <3

      • 8 February, 2015 at 3:59 pm

Hi Gingi… see how much I know about on line games… I didn’t know they were old…lol

I do have Pinterest and I have many boards, I am a quote a holic, I love finding things that inspire me xox

        • 9 February, 2015 at 4:36 am

Where can I find your Pinterest boards?? If you don’t mind my Pinterest stalking you, hehe! You just always have the coolest quotes on your blog! VERY inspiring, I love it!

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:25 pm

It’s fun seeing who chooses who as the hottest, hehe!

  • 8 February, 2015 at 12:01 pm

Nathan Drake from Uncharted tops my list.
    Mo from Dance Central.
Any of the Assassins from Assassin’s Creed.
Ejay said Joel from The Last Of Us. But I don’t see it.

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:29 pm

Jonathan wanted me to add Nathan Drake from Uncharted and I said no because I hadn’t played it! haha! And I wanted to put one of the Assassins from Assassins Creed and Jonathan wouldn’t let me! He made me put in Link instead!

      • 10 February, 2015 at 10:50 am

Gay! On both counts, cuz even if you haven’t played Uncharted you do have working eyes right?! And tell Jon his taste in men sucks.

        • 10 February, 2015 at 1:58 pm

          Your FACE sucks!!!!!

  • 8 February, 2015 at 12:07 pm

Also in his own creepy way I think Voldo from Soul Calibur is hot. Yea, he is old and bound and gagged, but home boy is ripped!

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:29 pm

Soooo, basically, you like the bad boys and I like the pretty boys???

      • 10 February, 2015 at 10:50 am

    • 8 February, 2015 at 3:31 pm

Lol, he’s the one I almost left out! 😉

  • 8 February, 2015 at 10:14 pm

AWWW CLOUD!!!! I’m into video games because I don’t really play but I know of Cloud somehow. My friend named his son Cloud – the baby passed away though. Sad 🙁

    • 9 February, 2015 at 4:39 am

I love the name Cloud for a boy, but my husband didn’t like it because he has a strict “No naming babies after fictional characters” policy, haha! And I of course found the name through this character. And omg, that is SO SAD about your friends baby!!! 🙁

    • 9 February, 2015 at 4:47 am

      Thanks!! <3

  • 9 February, 2015 at 12:58 pm

I’ll have to show this to Frank when he gets home from work. I’m pretty sure he will say that you forgot to include Sephiroth in the list, and I will add that I always thought Auron was hot too!

    • 9 February, 2015 at 2:30 pm

My husband insisted I put Sephiroth on, haha! I just think he is too androgynous and bad boy, ya know? He IS badass though!!

  • 9 February, 2015 at 4:50 pm

I’ve always liked the Prince from PoP! Especially in the first game on the PS.

    • 9 February, 2015 at 4:51 pm

Yeah, he is kind of freaking dreamy! lol

  • 9 February, 2015 at 5:45 pm

Bu Bu Bu Bu what about Sephiroth? He’s waaaaay hotter than any of those other FF characters. So he was a wimpy wimp at the end of the game; but he was totally bad asses the rest of the story.

    • 9 February, 2015 at 7:25 pm

LOL, what is with all the man crushes on Sephiroth?!?! 😉 Okay, maybe I’ll add him as an honorable mention! 😉

  • 11 February, 2015 at 3:00 am

You forgot Laguna Loire, Sephiroth, Zack Fair, Genisis, Vincent Valentine, Seifer, and Irvine. Also Cid from Advent Children. You can see what I like.

    • 11 February, 2015 at 3:07 am

Lol, our tastes are similar at least!! 😉

        • 12 February, 2015 at 2:08 am

Okay, I feel like I fail now.. who?????

  • 11 February, 2015 at 6:41 am

oh my I remember Sora!! LOL
They guy from Assassins creed should be in there too and I agree, they used to make characters which had much more soul.

    • 11 February, 2015 at 1:03 pm

Yeah, I probably should have fun Assassin in from Assassins Creed.. I vote we take Link out and put Assassin in!!

  • 11 February, 2015 at 1:17 pm

Oh man I was expecting to see a familiar male video game character that I like, too, as I scrolled down but I was a wee bit disappointed I didn’t see any when I reached the last person. There were familiar characters, though, buuut I don’t play the game (Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil) to appreciate it.

I was/am(?) more of a Tekken and Street Fighter gamer back in the day, Tomb Raider too. And some typical shooter game like House of the Dead. If I were to suggest a guy it would be Jin from the Tekken games hahaha. He looks the typical male character women gamers would have the hots for. Personally I like Paul and Bryan. Lol I’m going offtopic. I want to play Tekken again, sigh.

    • 11 February, 2015 at 2:17 pm

I ALMOST put Jin from Tekken, but then I went with Kilik from Soul Calibur, lol! I like House of the Dead, but the guys are so pixelated, it’s hard to see the “hotness”, hehehe!!! ^_^
