While you can’t judge a wine by its bottle any more than you can judge a book by its cover, these wines have me sold on their old fashioned turn of the century imagery. The wines in the series feature vivid vintage Americana style labels in a red, white and blue patriotic theme.. and for good reason! From the The Great American Wine Company:
The Great American Wine Company, by Rosenblum Cellars, is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of America. We proudly use the finest grapes from coastal California vineyards to pay tribute to classic American varietals and winemaking techniques. In tribute to our American heroes, we donate to U.S. military charities to support our troops and veterans each year.
This trio of new wines from the winemaking team at Rosenblum Cellars brings a spirit of commitment to American heroes. The brand has committed to an annual contribution to military charities to support active troops and veterans. In 2014, the USO will be the primary recipient, and will receive $100,000 donation to support its efforts to provide thousands of programs for US troops and their families worldwide.
With the All-American theme in mind, Jonathan and I pulled out the “blue” in the series to serve to our family and house guests on the 4th of July! With the majority of the guests being avid wine drinkers, the bottle was a hit! My only regret is that I was so busy playing hostess I was unable to grab the fun wine drinking imagery I love to capture in my wine reviews. (Again, see the photos from my Red Blend by clicking here.)
Here’s a little bit more about the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon:
– The bottle is made up of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 2% Petite Sirah.
– The wine was barrel ages for 12 months, providing toasty oak spices and firm tannins.
– Strong, bold, and flavorful, the wine has a long finish with lingering hints of dark fruits and cherry.
– This Cabernet Sauvignon packed enough punch to pair nicely with our hamburgers and corn on the cob off the grill, but not so overwhelming as to drown out the appetizers of hummus and raw milk cheeses.
I love this quote from John Kane, Great American Wine Winemaker, “While our Red Blend shows us the potential of limitless boundaries, our Cabernet Sauvignon shows us the strength of the individual. It captures the bold, rugged qualities that we value as Americans. It’s a wine with both gumption and grace.”
While I personally preferred the Red Blend to the “blue” in the series, my husband found that he favored the blue to the “red”. They’re both great bottles, and the diversity in flavor while sticking to such a worthy theme is nothing short of culinary artwork. I’m looking forward to sharing my review of the “white” blend with you guys soon!

I tried it, enjoyed it, and reviewed it on my blog. I wound up creating a wine pairing menu for it. It was really lovely, and it’s made its way into our regular rotation of drinkable wines (as opposed to wines we cellar).
I am not a wine drinker due to my allergy to sulfites however, I do like to collect interesting bottles. This one is really pretty. It reminds me of something you would see in a 4th of July pic from the 20’s.
I remember you saying that! I saw a really inexpensive wine at Costco the other day that was organic AND sulfite free. It made me think of you. Also, you deleted your blog?! NOOOOOO!! Whyyyyy??!?!?!
Everyone who drank the wines seemed to enjoy it. The bottles are very pretty, and gave a festive look to your spread. Cheers!
Thanks! ^_^
