So as much as my husband and I pride ourselves on being a big ol’ bunch of geeky geeks, we have been living without a working video game console for, oh, about two or three years now.
We actually have every video game system under the sun in our home – Xboxes, Playstations, Gamecubes, handheld consoles, etc. etc… but they’re all broken. I’m not even joking. You have to look at the pile of dead consoles to really grasp how strange this all really is. It’s like a couple of years ago technology just decided it hated us, and then one after another some evil spirit of gaming decided to go all ape-shit on our house and hex our entertainment boxes.
Anyway, all of that is to say, we bought a brand new PS4 for our household a few weeks ago, so we are a gaming family once again! Well, kind of.. so far it’s just my hubby playing here and there after work. I’ve been too busy with upcoming baby plans and new goats to allow myself to obsess over a new video game… so I’m just saving up all the raw fan girl passion for the new Kingdom Hearts game.
This blog post was inspired from my watching my husband play through Dragon Age. I was just floored by the new graphics and all the details in the characters costumes and features, and I found myself kind of ruing the fact that the lead character is just so, well, plain. I started thinking, they just don’t make video game guys like they used to.
Don’t get me wrong, I am actually quite thrilled with the new trend of utilizing the newer video game graphic technology to create realistic looking characters with scars, flaws and very human features. I’d actually rather my children grow up with characters that are more human and realistic, physically speaking. But there’s just some nostalgic 15 year old part of me that misses the flawless pretty boys and impossibly perfect badass men.
Before you start thinking I’m some shallow boy crazy housewife, I should probably point out that my husband helped me to compile this list. Which is kind of awesome or disturbing, depending on how you look at it. 😉

So I don’t play video games, but I’ll share it with my Hubs who should appreciate it. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little airbrushing, even for video game characters.
Yeah, the airbrushed look can be super dreamy.. the new characters are SO DETAILED though, you can see freckles and flaws and everything, it’s crazy!

My girls were and are STILL in love with Sora! One of the best games we played as a family!
Kingdom Hearts is seriously THE BEST video game on the planet! It is hands down my absolute favorite, and yes, we’ve played it through as a family MANY times, hehe.. make sure you let your girls play Kingdom Hearts 3 when it comes out this December!!!

Yeah, I can’t even find time for things like World of Warcraft, that don’t really require a set amount of game time to be fun.. ugh! Being a grown up stinks sometimes! hehe
Must confess that since my son isn’t living here any more I didn’t come near a running video game (rarely watch TV either), and haven’t ever heard about the games you describe, but it is very interesting to get a glimpse :))

What’s funnier is my husband Google searching “Hot Video Game Guys” and launching into a somewhat intellectual(ish) conversation with me on what constitutes “hot” versus “pretty boy”.. haha

I love this post I had so much fun reading it. It made me remember when home computers hit the market as I was a kid. Giana sisters (1987), Bubble bobble, California games and so on games we loved. I showed my godson these games – he could hardly see what it was. Talk about pixels and graphics 😉 Time changes but the guy I see most is Steve from Minecraft lol. Of course I play Borderlands, Skyrim and earlier WoW. Anyway I think you picked a nice bunch of hunks 😀

Ohhhh, what did you play in WoW?! Hubby and I play off and on and we are considering starting to play again! And yeah, I started playing video games back when home PCs were starting to become a thing.. I was about 10 years old and the hottest thing was Wolfenstine on PC and the ORIGINAL Legend of Zelda on Ninetendo NES, haha! Love the “spouse approved” sign off, hehe. Hehe, yeah WoW is fun! But I am a bit of an on-off player so I couldn´t keep up. And playing solo isn´t the same thing. My spouse doesn´t want to play online so we play couch co-op or realms.
In WoW I was a night elf druid with herbalism, alchemy and first aid skills. Don´t remember which talent spec. What are you playing in WoW?

My main in WoW is a human warlock, but my second is a night elf hunter! Hubby and I usually play on our laptops on the couch, it’s pretty fun! I have mixed feelings about signing up again, because it is SUCH a time drain, and with a baby on the way in like, less than a month?! PROBABLY not the best idea to sign up right now.. haha. But I’m aching to try the new expansion!!

😀 It is time draining to play and you easily get soaked up by the game. To be honest that was one of the reasons I quit WoW. Besides gaming it takes a lot of time reading to manage to play it “right”. I would love to play again. But I think it is better to wait until the baby gets older. Since I believe we are expecting a little busfrö (don’t know the english word – close to imp or gamine said with love and sweetness) lol But one day I probably end up in the WoW world…
Yeah, my husband likes to tease that I play WoW more like Sims sometimes than an actual MMORPG.. Yeah, I think it’ll be awhile before we play. But it stinks! Cuz I want to go to Blizzcon here in California and cosplay as our characters! And how cute would the babies look as mini night elfs?! lol!

LOL, yeah, as I was compiling this list I realized, oh man, I have a thing for the pretty boys!! haha.. my husband always gets all whiney whenever we plan new cosplays and I plan out the “pretty boy” characters for him.. Seriously, even my Domestic Geek Girl blog banner, of me and my husband kissing in costume at the coast cosplaying Yuna and Tidus from Final Fantasy? I had to drag him by the hair to cosplay that character because he was like, “He’s so girly!!!” lol!!! 😉
Clearly I don’t do video games because I didn’t know a single one of these guys – actually I’ve only heard of a couple of the games. My boys do video games some but they tend to go in spurts and don’t spend that much time playing them I guess.
I am in the “playing in spurts” mode right now. Back when I used to to martial arts I would play fighting games like Soul Calibur or Tekken to get “in the mood” for a good sparring match, haha! With a little one, and tons of things to do before the new baby arrives? I just can’t bring myself to get into a new game, since I tend to get obsessed! haha
You got some great choices there from what I see 🙂 I haven’t played any of the games you mentioned, I guess I’m just too old, but I can totally agree to the fact that hubby plays while I ‘work’ (in the kitchen etc) LOL
And the pretty boys totally remind of the pretty characters in Japanese anime. Sometimes you have to look twice to see if they’re male or female (unless, of course, there’s the typical big knockers ;))

AWWW CLOUD!!!! I’m into video games because I don’t really play but I know of Cloud somehow. My friend named his son Cloud – the baby passed away though. Sad 🙁
I love the name Cloud for a boy, but my husband didn’t like it because he has a strict “No naming babies after fictional characters” policy, haha! And I of course found the name through this character. And omg, that is SO SAD about your friends baby!!! 🙁

Oh man I was expecting to see a familiar male video game character that I like, too, as I scrolled down but I was a wee bit disappointed I didn’t see any when I reached the last person. There were familiar characters, though, buuut I don’t play the game (Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil) to appreciate it.
I was/am(?) more of a Tekken and Street Fighter gamer back in the day, Tomb Raider too. And some typical shooter game like House of the Dead. If I were to suggest a guy it would be Jin from the Tekken games hahaha. He looks the typical male character women gamers would have the hots for. Personally I like Paul and Bryan. Lol I’m going offtopic. I want to play Tekken again, sigh.
I ALMOST put Jin from Tekken, but then I went with Kilik from Soul Calibur, lol! I like House of the Dead, but the guys are so pixelated, it’s hard to see the “hotness”, hehehe!!! ^_^
