I have a few (and by a few, I mean a bazillion) things on my bucket list. My bucket list items are usually very specific in nature, I’ll sit and daydream for hours on end about very unique situations and scenarios in my future travels, and then I must make them happen!
One of these idle bucket list daydreams is to sit on the rocking chairs of the Roosevelt Lodge porch in Yellowstone while sipping on a steaming mug of coffee and just watching the world go by for a lazy hour or two.
So here’s what ended up happened: It was way too hot to drink coffee, so I ordered an Old Fashioned Whiskey on the rocks instead. (Not a bad swap, I’d say.) Then my hubby and I snagged two rocking chairs, just in time to discover a VERY poopy diaper that soiled Tessa’s pants, the second she’d soiled that day so she had no clean pants to change into.
The poopy pants princess got super hyper after being liberated of her pants, so she ran around the porch like a mad woman, making my husband and I chase her around. Then Thyme starting crying so I had to bottle feed her. I got about 2 solid minutes of scenery gazing in, then my daughter eventually ended up kicking my drink over and spilling about a quarter of it.
So was my bucket list daydream fulfilled? No and yet, a resounding YES! Less coffee, less peace, less deep breaths, less idle rocking on the porch… but I had a blast with my family. My kids make me crazy in the best way possible. And my memories are all the richer knowing that I never know what going to happen next!
So, here’s my Wikipedia rundown! The Roosevelt Lodge sits near Tower Junction and Tower Falls in Yellowstone National Park. The Lodge was built in 1919 and was first conceived as a field laboratory for students and educators conducting research in the park. It later became a camp for tourists, specifically designed to accommodate automobile-borne tourists.
The Lodge was in named in commemoration of President Roosevelt’s 1903 visit to the Park, and was intended to give the ambience of a dude ranch.
What a relaxing place. I would never get board of that view!
Would love to visit Yellow Stone some day, dear! Awesome photography! xoxo
Pretty sure I could sit on that front porch in a rocking chair with a drink in my hand all day long (as long as someone came and refreshed my drink ha!).
haha, even with toddlers running amok it was fun!! <3
I had so many moments like these when my children were little…. not quite what I had imagined when I planned the trip! But now I look back and laugh, so I give you BIG CREDIT for seeing the joy in them in the moment. It looks like such a wonderful place to sit and “soak in.”
Haha, yeah, I wouldn’t want it any other way, in the long run… I think everyone needs kids or cats to enjoy some true spontaneity in life! 😉
I love that you’re not waiting til you’re old and gray to live out your bucket list, girl!
I’m inspired by you …

I think that’s on my bucket list too!
It’s funny how I’ll dream about something and of course, it’s never like I imagined it. Less glossy and tranquil and more.. poopy diaper-like.
But often better. Realer.
Hahahah.. that needs to be stitched on a patchwork pillow or something: “Live the life you dreamed of, even if it is more poopy diaper-like than you envisioned.”
So beautiful place!
Have a nice evening!

Love this post and pictures, I want to tweak my bucket list now!
Wow, this lodge just looks incredibly relaxing and dream-like. I’d love to stay there! Sigh. Someday I’ll get to the left of the U.S. Until then, I’ll just live vicariously through your pics!! Now about those soiled pants….I have so been there! It’s like, you pack two extra pair of pants and undies and think what could happen? And it happens.
Yeah, you’d think TWO pairs of pants would be enough for a few hours out… you’d think… haha!
What a beautiful and relaxing place.I bet the weather there is so clean it makes you sleep like a baby))
Loved the story you shared Gingi, made me smile))
