Korean dramas have been around for decades…
…but now with popular streaming applications like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu more and more people are taking notice. Ā I discovered this genre a few years ago on Netflix. Ā I was instantly hooked.
City Hunter was the first Korean drama I ever watched and is also my #1 pick. Ā It is a show I Ā have recommended to lots of people. Ā Some of them hadnāt watched a Korean drama before, but like me were quickly addicted. Ā It was from a friend who I recommended the show to, that I found out the show is based on a manga series by the same name. Ā I havenāt read the manga so this overview and review is only based on the TV show.
City Hunter aired in 2011. Ā There are 20 episodes and each episode is over an hour long. Ā That may seem like a lot of watching time but I chain watched this show so it only took me about five days. Ā I have since watched it many times, gotten friends to watch it, and even bought a DVD of it because I liked it sooo much!
Lee Yoon-sung has been training for years to avenge the father he never knew. Ā In order to get his revenge, he moves to Seoul and gets a job in the IT department at the Blue House (itās like the White House of South Korea). Ā There he hunts down and exposes the corruption of the five men responsible for the death of his father. Ā
What I Love About City Hunter
Forbidden Love
Yoon-sung isnāt suppose to fall in love. Ā He is actually told by his adoptive father not to fall in love because it will put the people he loves in danger. Ā
Hidden Identity
Yoon-sung keeps his identity secret from everyone covering his nose and mouth. Ā Itās totally not believable that no one recognizes him for so long. Ā I still like the mystery it creates and the added story line as the characters try to figure out who is that masked man.
Protect the Girl
Call me old fashion but I like the idea that a man takes care of the woman he loves. Ā Even while trying to hide his love for Kim Na-na, Yoon-sung makes certain choices that have no benefit to him except to protect Na-na.
Twists
As the story progresses the audience learns more and more about both Yoon-sung and Na-na. Ā The show has lots of twist, if you like that sort of thing. Ā I love it!
Lee Min-ho
I personally have a crush on this actor. Ā Or maybe itās the character he plays. Ā Maybe I really have a crush on Yoon-sung. Ā It doesnāt really matter since they have the same face.
What You May Not Like If You Are New To Korean Dramas…
Subtitles
This is a Korean show, shot in Korea, therefore, someone has to add subtitles. Ā I was teased a lot while watching this show because I would pause it if anyone was making noise. Ā Yes, I know I donāt hear subtitles but you have to concentrate to read and it’s hard to concentrate when people are making noise.
The First Episode
The first episode is kinda hard to get through. Ā It is basically the back story for the entire show though so you really need to watch it.
To watch City Hunter for free online, CLICK HERE. Ā Since it is free, there will be commercials.
he visto algunas de este estilo, aunque no soy muy de ellas
Looks nice!

Yeah, I am super intrigued by it! Planning on watching it through this weekend!
Sounds like a really cool series! I have seen quite a few Korean movies but not shows, will have to check it out.
Korean manga, dramas and pop music are getting sooooo big in the USA recently.. I need to jump on this bandwagon for sure!
I would like to see this series!
Kisses, Paola.
Thanks for sharing! I like to hear the show even if I’m reading subtitles as well! I love this British soap opera called Hollyoaks, and I’ve watched another one from Germany – so it had the subtitles. I haven’t tried a Korean drama yet though, so I should!
This seems like it would be right up your alley (judging by your book interests!! hehe!) Let me know what you think of the series, yeah? <3
I will give a chance to this tv show, thank you for recommendation š
We don’t have TV any more. We got rid of cable years ago, and don’t miss TV at all.
Looks like an interesting program tho.
I dont watch TV anymore either… when we do, it is usually isolated marathons of shows on Netflix or Crunchyroll! haha…
Haven’t watched any Korean dramas yet so thanks for the recommendation!
