FALL IS ALMOST HERE YA’LL!!! (Although, living in the PNW now, I must confess… I’ve been celebrating fall since September 1, haha!)
Maybe it’s just me, but I rank the flavors of coffee and bourbon right up there with the best of the autumn flavors… this duo seriously deserved a spot right next to pumpkin spice and mulled cider. So I was SUPER excited to try this bourbon infused coffee, since I’m already enjoying chilly mornings and turning leaves on our little island here in Washington State.
This organic specialty grade coffee by Don Pablo is soaked in real Kentucky Bourbon before its roasted, letting the beans absorb every drop. The beans are then roasted in small batches for a delicious infusion of flavors without the alcohol. And the flavor in this cup of Joe is so STRONG that it’s actually quite shocking that there’s no alcohol! (It’s a good thing, I promise!) The strong flavor and aroma of bourbon is predominant, but you can also detect flavor notes of cocoa, honey, and butterscotch.
As advertised, this coffee, “the marriage of these natural flavors is a fine balance of sweet and spice, fruitiness and nuttiness, partially derived from the bourbon’s maturation in seasoned oak casks. The coffee’s natural cocoa-toned finish is very smooth and velvet-like with a lasting residual sweetness”… seriously, it’s something you just have to TRY to “get it”.
The whole golden blonde roast coffee beans come in a unique, collectible foil lined cardboard bourbon barrel tube, which makes a unique gift (Fathers Day or birthdays for the dudes, anyone?) and look great sitting out on the counter.
My honest impression of this coffee? This really is a one of a kind coffee. I wouldn’t compare it to an regular cup of coffee, since it is anything but. This really does taste like a coffee you added a shot of bourbon too, only less intense… it doesn’t feel like you just added a shot. It’s as thought a coffee bean bush and a barrel of bourbon made a baby. (Does that make ANY sense?! Lol!) As stated on the Don Pablo website, “This item is in a category of its own. It is not conventionally flavored coffee, which is made with chemical flavoring, and it is not “Bourbon Barrel Aged” coffee, rather the coffee beans are actually soaked in Kentucky Bourbon for several days, then dried and roasted Golden Blonde to perfection. The resulting taste is a perfect balance of Bourbon and coffee flavors, without the alcohol.”
As soon as you open the package, the powerful aroma of the bourbon is overwhelming… it’s absolutely wild. My husband, a hardcore bourbon lover, has already confiscated the entire batch as his, haha.
Here’s a little bit about Don Pablo Coffee from their website (CLICK HERE to visit):
“Our Story: Darron Burke fell in love with a beautiful Colombian girl named Eliana. She took him to her country and introduced him to her family, where Darron was renamed Don Pablo by Eliana’s grandmother as it was much easier to pronounce. Darron and Eliana got married and started Don Pablo Coffee together.
