It’s May Fourth AND YOU KNOW THAT THAT MEANS!!! It’s STAR WARS DAY!!!
As per Star Wars Wiki: Star Wars Day is an informal commemorative day observed annually on May 4 to celebrate Star Wars. The date originated from the pun “May the Fourth be with you”, a variant of the popular Star Wars catchphrase “May the Force be with you”. Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans around the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and parent company Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.
My hubby and I have been celebrating the day with LOTS of Star Wars inspired recipes, some copycat recipes from Galaxy’s Edge, and some our own Star Wars inspired fandom steeped creations. I’ll be posting them all on my blog today, so watch out!
We also spent the morning watching Return of the Jedi (indisputably the best movie in the entire franchise) and I’ve been randomly belting out my own falsetto version of Carrie Fisher’s “Star Wars” song from the Star Wars Holiday masterpiece.
Anyhoo, on with the Star Wars recipes!
Next up is: Outpost Popcorn Mix, a copycat recipe from Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge! There are a lot of copycat recipes floating around out there for this treat, but we gave the Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook recipe a shot. While it doesn’t quite visually match the eye popping brightness and vibrancy of the Disney Parks treat, the flavor is there and you really just can’t beat gooey sticky warm popcorn fresh out of the oven! Check it out!
You Will Need:
For the Red Popcorn:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 5-ounce box of Hot Tamales candy
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup light corn syrup
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 6 cups plain popped popcorn
For the White Popcorn:
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup light corn syrup
- 1 ½ ounces of grape flavored gelatin mix
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 6 cups plain popped popcorn
- Preheat the oven to 225 degrees. Grease two baking sheets (one for each popcorn flavor.)
- In a saucepan, add the butter, Hot Tamales, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir well to combine, and continue to stir until the candy completely melts. Stir in the baking soda and remove from heat.
- Meanwhile, in a second saucepan, combine the butter, corn syrup, grape gelatin mix and sugar. Bring to a simmer and stir constantly for 5 minutes. Stir in the baking soda and remove from heat.
- Pour the Hot Tamale sauce over 6 cups of popcorn and toss to fully coat.
- Pour the grape gelatin sauce over the remaining 6 cups of popcorn and toss to fully coat.
- Place the two flavors on separate greased baking sheets and place in the oven. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven to cool. Once cooled, combined the two flavors and enjoy!
I hope you enjoy your Outpost Popcorn Mix, AND, of course, MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!!!
