Today was the first day of “Back to School” here in the Freeman house where my homeschooled kiddos are entering Kindergarten, 2nd Grade and 4th Grade!
Since we tend to low key homeschool year round, we are generally well stocked and things like my kids backpacks and binders have very low wear and tear. We are also in the habit of buying new clothing items and shoes as needed, so we aren’t ever in a position to need to buy a whole new wardrobe in one swoop.
But I have very fond memories of “Back to School” shopping, where I got to pick out all new clothes and backpacks and whatnot. So I’ve decided to preserve this memory with my kids, by making the first day back to school special and letting the kids pick out a whole new outfit and a favorite breakfast pastry (usually donuts, cookies and brownies!) and then we take Back to School photos!
The morning of our first day back to school the kids wear their new outfits, and we have an easy morning of super unhealthy and overly sugary breakfast pastries, lol! I love carrying on this tradition and making it super special for my kids.
Here’s the outfits they chose, along with the photos we took for our first day “Back to School”!

Yeah, they went really casual (last year they went all flashy and layered and blingy, haha) so it’s always fun to see how their tastes change each year!
Aww look at those sweet smiles! Your back to school tradition sounds like such a nice way to celebrate going back to school.

These are such cute pics! Even though you homeschool them, I like that you mark the beginning of the year. I have fond memories of shopping for new clothes for school.

Yes, I want them to have as many similar experiences as their neighborhood friends and peers! No reason why they can’t have it ALL!
OMG, this is so fabulous. I especially love them hugging together.
