So last summer Jonathan and I decided to submit some of our cosplay photography images to Dr. Grymm Laboratories after they sent out a nation-wide request for cosplay photography to feature in their new book.
From Dr. Grymm Laboratories on what this book was all about, “You can see the appeal of having these incredible photos that really show off the work that is put into a costume and making all the details perfect. Along with that comes the ability to roleplay a bit and have some fun. I find that my favorite images are the ones where the cosplayers are really getting into the spirit of becoming the character. For instance I saw a Yuna cosplay last night where the subject was standing on water and splashing with her staff. It looked straight out the game. More than that though, IT LOOKED FUN. Those are the things we want to highlight with this project. Innovation, artistry and fun.”
After submitting our portfolio last year, we forgot about it completely till we received an e-mail about a month ago saying that some of our photos were used and the book would soon be available for purchase. Again, figuring we’d buy it once it was out, we forgot about it. Then, just a few days ago, my mum came over with a surprise… the book! She had ordered it and guess what… we were in it! Many times! Wooooooo!
It’s always fun to have projects you pour your heart and soul into being put in the spotlight and featured. We don’t often seek the spotlight with our costumes, and rarely participate in masquerades or contests, so it’s thrilling when we do put our work out there and get a positive response.
I also think it’s cute that the book lists us as Gingi Edmonds and Jonathan Freeman (since we submitted it before the wedding). It’ll definitely be something sweet to show Tessa – this is what your parents did before you were born!
Here are all the photos that the book used – I’m surprised they picked these ones since there were so many more that I would have assumed would get picked first! But I’m not complaining. ^_^
