It’s been aaaaaages since Jonathan and I have been to a larger sized convention, so we were super excited to go to Pensacon! Especially since we were going in our first family cosplay – gotta raise this child right! (Click here to see pictures of our Fullmetal Alchemist cosplay!)
Pensacon is Pensacola’s premiere, all inclusive convention for the fan community, incorporating genres from sci-fi, fantasy, horror, steampumk, comics, anime, gaming and more. This was the first year of Pensacon, and whoever pulled this event together, knew what they were doing!
We arrived on Saturday to buy a single day pass, and the line was INSANE. The line to buy our tickets took us roughly an hour to weave through, and the line to get into the convention (once we had our tickets) was about 15 minutes. It was so packed that after the ticket, and building entrance line, there was a THIRD ten minute line to get into the vending hall. We didn’t care to try to brave the lines to get into any panels so it was mostly a walk around, look at all the pretties and get sore feet kind of day.
It’s been awhile since we’ve done a crowd stopping, get stuck in one place while photos are taken type cosplay. It was fun watching the reactions of people that saw our family cosplay and “got it”. We got a lot of “ohhh, you are evil!” and “OH MY GOD!!”s. Even when we slowly starting stripping off costume pieces as the night progressed (you know how that goes, after hours of wandering around, the costume just has GOT to go) we still got asked for photos.
After the convention, we headed downtown, where all of the local bars and lounges were hosting geeky themed bar hops, with discounted prices to those in costume and / or with Pensacon badges. While hopping around downtown, we tried a ‘Sonic Screwdriver”, “Red Rum”, “Aquaman Whiskey”, “Zombie Juice Shooter”, “The Millennium Falcon” and “Soylent Green”. Yummmmmmmmmy.
The atmosphere reminded me of a small San Diego Comic Con from a decade ago. Lots of “the party don’t stop” attitudes everywhere. Overall, a great day at the convention! (Tessa thought so too!)
My auntie pride is at near bursting level to see my Tessa Bear in the captain’s chair!!!
lol, first time she was in that chair at Fandomcon, she couldn’t sit up or smile yet!
Thanks for posting so many photos! That’s a Blink angel right? And the baby in the captain’s chair is a riot.
Yeah, thats a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who.. FREAKED ME OUT. Haha. And that’s my little munchkin in the Captains Chair. 😉
