This was another dream cosplay! I was Kaoru Kamiya, Jonathan was Kenshin Himura, Sean was Sanosuke Sagara and Sky was Misao Makimachi. We took the photos at the Shinzen Japanese Gardens in Fresno, California last summer in 2012.
All of these costumes were made from scratch – either drafting our own patterns, or using / altering Simplicity patterns. The kimono lining and obis for Kaoru and Misao I made from bed sheets I found at a thrift store! The Kaoru and Kenshin wigs we won from the USA Wig competition for getting first place for our Cowboy Bebop photos.
I really like the way these photos came out! Hope you guys like! ^_^
Gyn, you’re fantastic! I would love to make a lot of costumes for the family but I keep on thinking what I’d do with them after. Do you just keep them, upcycle or sell them?
We have been packrats and have kept them. At one point our walk in closet was 2/3rds full of costumes, and we didn’t have room for our own clothes! So now that we are looking at moving out of state (and having a baby on the way!) we have been slowly getting rid of them. Mostly donating them to local theater groups! You should get into costuming! It is so much fun, and has so many elements of creativity to it! It’s crafting, acting, photography, makeup and so much more all rolled into one project!
