Being a geeky parent comes with a whole slew of responsibilities that “normal” parents cannot even begin to fathom. Once you see that double line on a pregnancy stick, urgent questions begin percolating: How old does she have to be before 20 sided die are no longer a choking hazard? How can we introduce her to Star Wars Episodes 1 through 3 without ruining her childhood? And the all-important, What kind of geeky chic baby onesies will we put her in to establish her geek cred?
When Tessa was but a wee thing, I discovered NerdKungFu, an online nerdy shirt clothing store with an impressive selection of geeky genres ranging from Star Wars to Monty Python to Marvel Comics and everything in between. The selection of nerd-tastic baby onesies and the personable, approachable nature of the website prompted me to contact the company and arrange for a product review.
And lucky me, the folks at NerdKungFu were awesome enough to send us two Star Trek themed onesies for Tessa to try out, model and review! We contacted our local Starfleet chapter to borrow their Captain’s Chair, and Tessa was all set to boldly go where no baby has gone before!

The Star Trek Onesies
NerdKungFu sent me their Star Trek Future Captain Onesie and Star Trek Science Blue Shirt Logo Onesie for Tessa.
Each onesie is officially licensed and made from super soft 30/1 thickness, 100% cotton material with snap bottoms. This material is 100% baby skin friendly, which means you don’t have to sacrifice your kid’s skin health for geeky style – which I’m learning is usually the case when it comes to nerdy novelties. 100% cotton is ideal for babies as it allows the skin to breathe naturally, helps regulate body temperature (which babies are not fully able to do themselves at this age) and reduces incidences of rashes and skin reactions. The onesies fit as expected.. not too much room in the shoulders, or excessive width on the sides, and the adorable designs speak for themselves! The longer sleeves give it a great t-shirt feel, so it doesn’t look like a cliche onesie when worn with pants or shorts.
While the black “Future Captain” shirt was adorable, I think we’re partial to the blue Spock onesie. Tessa always gets that intense, logical thinking face and she has those cute little elfin ears that are amplified by her inexplicably bald baby head, and it’s like.. wow. Little Spockling right there!

Squeeeee! This makes my old fangurl heart sing!! My granddaughter is already modeling and now acting. Just look at her channeling Mr. Spock AND Captain Picard! I love this more than I can express…seriously.

D’awwww, thanks! She’s gonna be my little cosplay princess! What’s funny is, she was woken up from a nap for the photos and she was CRANKY! We could not get a smile out of her no matter what we tried! And when she finally gave us a mini giggle, she fell sideways and bonked her head on the chairs arm, (not hard) but she started crying in a sleepy eyed fit!! So it was a huge disaster of a shoot, haha. We ended up piling the tribbles around her so she wouldn’t fall over again.. toward the end she woke up and a big and started playing with the buttons and such. So I’m glad that we got some good shots when it was all said and done.. but yeah.. she was NOT in the mood to be photographed at the time, haha.

The problem is, finding cosplays that include a man, a woman, and a baby so we can all cosplay as a family! lol… ideas?!?!

As a huge Star Trek fan, (I’m typing this while I wear my favorite Star Trek shirt actually) I will definitely be getting things like this for my future baby. That’s one thing I’m super excited about when it comes to thinking about one day having a baby. All the nerdy things I can get him/her!
Also, Tessa’s pictures are adorable!
Whenever I hear people talk about their geeky shirt, or trying out something on my blog, or whatever, I always want to see pictures.. I am seriously thinking of making a sidebar widget where people can upload their own photos to share with everyone… you’re wearing a Star Trek shirt? Screen cap or it didn’t happen! haha. I’m just afraid of making a pic uploader that no one will use.. then I’ll feel lame!

OMG I have been wanting that soft kitty warm kitty shirt FOR FREAKING EVER. Not even kidding. Everytime I see it on sale somewhere… a comic convention, Think Geek, even Walmart had it over the holidays, and now here on NerdKungFu.. I’m always SO BROKE that it’s out of the question. By the time I buy it, everyone will be like, “Oooo, check out the vintage tee!” hahaha…
