Jonathan and I have always been big Chronicles of Narnia fans – it was one of the books we talked about on our very first date – so we figured we should make these costumes for the midnight release of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when it came out in October of 2010!
Again, this was when we were just beginning to try our hand at costuming. My mum can pretty much made the entire dress all by her onesie, while Jonathan and I focused all our attention on the leather brigandine and accessories. Jonathan made the 16th century brigandine completely by hand, and from 100% period materials. He hand hammered each metal piece into the leather armor pieces. It took him weeks and many sleepless nights, but we’re both quite proud of the outcome!
We got really crafty with the accessories: the quiver is a plastic plate mat from the dollar store that we rolled up and hot glued into quiver form. I took apart an embossed leather purse I found at a thrift store and glued it onto the place mat / quiver. Then I filled out the form with molding putty and painted it white. Voila! Faux leather quiver! The arrows were wooden dowels that I painted brown and hot glued red feathers to. (It was super hard keeping my cats away from my make-shift fletching! lol)
We took the pictures in the Sequoia National Park on the same trail that we took the Princess Bride and Avatar photos at. It was fun, also… when we were walking back to the car, we saw a bear! ^_^
Do you have an entire walk-in closet full of costumes?
Actually… yes. lol! *blush*
That is very cool. *L*
I’m in the process of getting rid of my costumes now.. you interested?! hehe..
