Guess what we did for the FIRST TIME today?! That’s right, we checked off another ride in our “never have I ever” Disney list! So let’s talk about one of the newest additions to Storybook Circus: The Barnstormer, starring the one and only Great Goofini.
Now, when the circus rolls into town, there’s always the headlining act, right? Well, in this case, it’s none other than Dumbo the Flying Elephant stealing the spotlight, leaving our dear Goofini in the secondary slot. Poor guy, always playing second fiddle to a flying pachyderm!
But don’t feel too bad for him, because despite not getting top billing, Goofini sure knows how to put on a show. You can spot him all over Storybook Circus, except for the Big Top, of course—that’s Dumbo’s domain. But Goofini? He’s everywhere, from bear wrestling (or as the poster hilariously puts it, “bear wrasslin'”) to water ski jumping. The guy’s busier than a bee in a flower field!
But the real highlight is The Barnstormer ride itself. Picture Goofy, the stunt pilot, taking you on a wild flight around the countryside. Disney Imagineering describes it as the “greatest show in the kingdom,” showcasing Goofini’s aerial acrobatics and bravery. It’s a ‘plane’ crazy adventure that’ll leave you breathless!
As you line up, you’ll pass by ticket booths and posters showcasing Goofini’s daring feats. Picture this: a canine cannonball, a reckless rocketeer, and yes, even bear wrasslin’—all illustrated in eye-catching posters along the circus walkways, with convenient target shades to get you out of the Florida sun.
And once you’re inside, get ready for the ride of your life. You’ll hop into a 16-seat stunt plane complete with a propeller and wings, and off you go! Goofini takes you through air-racing pylons, zooming past crashed pylons and giving you a taste of his daredevil stunts.
After the ride, unlike most Disney attractions, there’s no gift shop. Instead, take a stroll and check out the old crash helmets and aid boxes in the exit area. Fun fact: the barn used in the ride is from the original petting zoo attraction, adding a touch of nostalgia to the experience.
The Barnstormer opened back in 1996 as part of Mickey’s Toontown Fair, survived the Fantasyland expansion, and reopened with the Great Goofini in 2012. It’s a hit with the crowds, so plan your visit wisely to avoid long lines. And if you’re wondering if your little one can hop on this thrilling adventure, fret not. As long as they’re at least 35 inches tall, they’re good to go.
So, what’s the bottom line? The Barnstormer is a must-visit for families with young kids, but it really is for YOUNG kids. And the ride itself is really short.. and I mean, REALLY short – it clocks in at just 53 seconds. (Yikes.) But it is a blast for the little ones (and Disney adults with a “gotta catch em all” attitude toward Disney rides), and the new theme adds an extra layer of excitement. So next time you’re in Storybook Circus, don’t forget to catch The Great Goofini in action. It’s sure to be a wild ride!
Stay Goofy,
Gingi Freeman
