Sometimes all you really need to take your mental, physical and spiritual wellness to the next level is not a completely new routine or habit, but an upgrade of your current routine / habits.
I have been focusing on self-love a lot lately, and part of loving myself RIGHT NOW as I am IN THIS MOMENT involves giving myself the love, attention and pampering that I always envision giving the future me.
Do this. Picture yourself a year from now. All of your health and wellness dreams and goals have come true. ALL OF THEM. You weigh your ideal weight. Your skin is toned and tight. Your hair, your nails, your skin, your teeth, EVERYTHING is as good, and better, than you had imagined for yourself. How does this “future you” take care of herself
How often does “future you” shower? Take long baths? Give herself mani-pedis? Indulge in body scrubs and lotions? Have DIY facials? How often does she do her makeup? Style her hair?
Now think of yourself, RIGHT NOW. How does your mental image of future you and CURRENT you line up?
The secret to becoming the person you know you were meant to be is BEING THAT PERSON RIGHT NOW. The more you act like that person, the more the image of your future self, and your current reality, will merge and fuse. You don’t first wait to be thin, fit, well groomed, relaxed, self-loving and self-nurturing. You ACT LIKE that NOW and THEN it becomes your reality. Be it and do it, and you will have it.
All of that is to say, I have decided to seriously up my shower game, ya’ll. I am going to transform my shower time – which to be honest, I have always viewed as a chore – and up it to some spa level awesomeness.
For the next 21 days I will be conducting an Elevate Your Shower Time Challenge. For 21 days straight I will stick to a non-negotiable showering schedule and seriously up my game, making my shower time a serious spa level act of self-love and extreme pampering. I’ll check in periodically to let you guys know my insights, my progress and how it’s going for me! If you’d like to join in the fun too, check out these tips I plan to implement below.
WAYS TO ELEVATE YOUR SHOWER TIME
- Set a certain day and time when you want to shower, and make this non-negotiable, setting aside your shower time as a vital self-love practice for you health and well-being. For instance, I plan to shower 3x a week at the start of my day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Create a spa-like setting where you shower. Clean and declutter your bathroom. Infuse the space with colors, decor and items that make you feel zen and calm and pampered.
- Play some calming, relaxing and soul refreshing music while you shower and pamper.
- Get some candles and essential oils to harness the power of aromatherapy while showering.
- Pamper yourself by buying the best products you can. Invest in a really nice razor. Get a scrumptious body scrub. Splurge on the things that make you happiest.
- Take your time when using your shower products. Wash your hair like you’re in an old school Herbal Essences commercial. Run your fingers over every inch of your body and shower yourself with love and happy vibes.
- Spend extra time on your “problem areas”, keeping your thoughts centered on love and acceptance and joyful gratitude for the body you have.
- Focus on your breath and keep your thoughts elevated and in the moment. Just as you savor a trip to the spa, soaking in every moment, spend your time in the shower with that same “savor the moment” mentality.
- Change the way you view showering. When you see it as a time to shower yourself in self-love and healing touching, it becomes an act of wellness that will go a LONG way toward helping you reach your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual goals.
