Girls Night In with Butterfly Kiss and The Other Woman

Life has been a complete whirlwind since having Tessa. My little angel isn’t even a year old yet, and already she has experienced a cross country move, the transition of looking for, buying, and moving into a new house, and all of the joys and pains that come with adjusting to the life of a Navy family.
So when it was suggested that I host a Girls Night In for a blog post with Butterfly Kiss wine tasting and The Other Woman, a chick flick comedy, I kind of hesitated. Some days I struggle to find time to brush my teeth, let alone hang out with friends in an orchestrated attempt at girl time!
But, I decided to give it a shot. It’s been three months since we’ve moved into our new home, and even though unpacked boxes are still piled up in the garage, it’s about time I have some me time, isn’t it?! So I sent out invites to some of my favorite local ladies with young children for a Girls Night In, which we affectionately dubbed, “Mommies Night In”.
Once the gang (Bree, Erika and Amber) arrived, we packed up our kiddos and husbands and sent them off with a cheap appeasement of s’mores and left over 4th of July sparklers so that we could have the house all to ourselves.
Seriously. Four moms without kids and husbands, all at the same time?! This was a rare and near miraculous occasion. Kind of like the super moon.
We didn’t waste any time popping open the bottles and calling dibs on the sticky butterfly glass markers to bling up our wine glasses. I guess, in my excitement of having my first girls night in since becoming a mother, I forgot to mention to the gals that Butterfly Kiss is the featured wine throughout the movie, The Other Woman. The first time the bottle flashed on the screen (within the opening credits), one of the gals said, “HEY! That’s the same exact wine we’re drinking!!”
Which then prompted the only logical course of action for the occasion: Take a sip of wine whenever Butterfly Kiss, or a wine glass appears on the screen!
It was a fun night. We literally laughed and giggled so much that we made ourselves sore!
The Other Woman was a funny movie, and perfect for a girls-only gathering. It had an interesting premise, which I will quote via IMDB since I really stink at summarizing movies in less that 900+ characters. “After discovering her boyfriend is married, a woman (Cameron Diaz) tries to get her ruined life back on track. But when she accidentally meets the wife he’s been cheating on (Leslie Mann), she realizes they have much in common, and her sworn enemy becomes her greatest friend. When yet another affair is discovered (Kate Upton), all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on their cheating, lying, three-timing SOB.”
There were some moments that had us gals flopping all over the couch in giggle fits. There wasn’t a dull moment during the flick! While we watched the film, we played our little drinking game and munched on cheese and crackers that paired well with the white wines.
But a little bit more about the wines! While there are five varieties of wines in the Butterfly Kiss line, we had the Moscato and the Chardonnay to try. Which worked out perfectly – it turns out all three ladies love Moscato’s while I am extremely partial to Chardonnay’s.
The Moscato definitely was a hit. This seems to be the premiere wine for non-wine drinkers. Sweet, floral, fruit and light on the palate, this bottle did NOT last long in our Girls Night In! When it comes to the world of wine, I, personally, do not like Moscato’s. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate them. They’re just not my thing. But it was hands down, the favorite of my three friends. If I’d anticipated the fight over the rapidly dwindling bottle, I would have picked up another for our gathering before-hand!
The Butterfly Kiss Chardonnay – which I very much preferred! – was light and juicy with just a hint of vanilla. The flavor packs a great value for the price, and the appealing bottle (yes, I DO judge wines by their bottles, so sue me) makes this a great wine to have on hand for girly gatherings. Anyhoo, we had SO MUCH FUN with our Girls Night In, that we already have plans to make this a monthly gathering!
Oh! Also! I dragged the girls out to my deck and forced them to drink wine while I snapped photos of them through the ivy like a creeper, so I could share with you folks here on my blog. Ain’t they lovely?? 😉

Great blog! Yay! You’re such a natural when it comes to writing and taking pictures! I just love the photos of us ladies. 🙂 Thank you so much for having us. Can’t wait for next month!
A couple of thoughts on this post from me…
First, in that one photo, it seems like the glasses and bottles are sitting on their imaginations! But the other shot is amazing, with the reflections and colors bouncing off the wine in the glass. I don’t drink wine, but I too am a ‘judge by the cover/bottle’ person. I also only know Bree in that giggly group, but the one gal in the middle has awesome taste in clothing (fabric)! I want to know where she got that dress/skirt with the Beauty and the Beast print. Keep up the great work, but next time, use a tripod, or call your hubby back in to snap some pix of you.
I told you about when Hot Topic was selling those skirts! We decided to keep away, because we were broke, remember?? lol. And yeah, I need to jump in on the photos next time…
Awesome article! And thank you guys for the compliments on my awesome dress. It is by far my favorite piece in my Beauty and the Beast collection. (For those wondering I purchased it at Hot Topic). Just wait until you see the awesome superman scarf and bag set I made… The wine and the movie were awesome! And I can’t wait until next months GNI!
This makes me want to watch that movie AND try the moscato! But only if you guys come with it! 😉
p.s. – awesome beauty and the beast skirt Amber!
Why don’t you live closer Jenelle?!?! You know we would MAKE you come with us if you were, lol…
