Hey there, fellow Disney enthusiasts and foodies! Today, I’m beyond thrilled to share a delightful culinary adventure straight from the golden age of Disney magic. Picture this: it’s 1935, and Mickey Mouse, the beloved icon of animation, is not just gracing the silver screen but also the pages of a the FIRST EVER Disney approved cookbook.
The 1935 Mickey Mouse Recipe Scrap Book is a treasure trove of culinary delights, and recently, I was lucky enough to snag a copy at auction to add to my ever-growing Disney memorabilia collection.
Nestled within the pages of this vintage gem is a recipe for Baked Halibut that caught my eye. Halibut, a prized fish known for its delicate flavor and firm texture, seemed like the perfect canvas for a culinary journey back in time. As I gently flipped through the weathered pages, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era when simple pleasures like a home-cooked meal and an animated mouse could bring so much joy.

But enough reminiscing, let’s get down to the good stuff – the recipe itself. Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
- 1 1 pound halibut steak, 1 inch thick
- 1 cup of milk
- Dash of pepper
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup of fine soft breadcrumbs
- Dash of salt
- Dash of paprika
Instructions:
- Place halibut in shallow pan, pour on milk, add salt and let stand 15 to 20 minutes, turning once.
- Combine crumbs, salt and pepper. Add butter, tossing crumbs lightly to mix well.
- Remove fish from milk. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper and cover with ⅓ of crumbs, patting them into fish. Place crumb-side down in well-greased shallow baking pan.
- Cover evenly with remaining crumbs, sprinkle with paprika and bake in hot oven (450° F) 15 minutes, or until crumbs are brown and fish is cooked.
- Serve hot and enjoy a taste of culinary nostalgia!
The Baked Halibut from the 1935 Mickey Mouse Recipe Scrap Book exceeded all my expectations. The fish was tender and flaky, perfectly complemented by the buttery breadcrumb topping. Each bite was like a trip down memory lane, evoking the simpler times of yesteryear.
If you’re a Disney aficionado or simply someone who appreciates a good vintage recipe, I highly recommend giving this Baked Halibut a try. It’s a delicious way to pay homage to the timeless magic of Mickey Mouse and indulge in a taste of history.
Until next time, happy cooking and may your kitchen adventures be filled with a sprinkle of pixie dust and a dash of nostalgia!
Bon appétit!
