My family and I do Halfway to Halloween, HARD, so my TikTok has been lit up with Halloween videos and inspiration. I was NOT expecting to get equally inundated with CHRISTMAS TikToks about 2 weeks later. (I mean.. it makes sense, I guess?)
It’s hard to believe, but with it being late spring we ARE about halfway to the Christmas season! For many people like myself, this is an exciting time to start planning for the holiday season. During the ACTUAL holiday season (November to December) gift shopping and holiday parties will be top of mind, so I have found that the off seasons – spring and summer – is a great time to think about all the small prep details, like updating your home decor for the upcoming season.
If you like thrifting and trolling Facebook Marketplace year round for off-season holiday deals like I do, here is a list of some non-gift, home decor items to keep an eye out for and start buying NOW for the upcoming 2024 Christmas season:
1. Festive Pillows: Adding some holiday-themed pillows to your sofa or chairs is an easy and affordable way to add some holiday cheer to your living room. Look for pillows with classic holiday designs like snowflakes, reindeer, or Christmas trees.
2. Cozy Throws: As the weather gets colder, cozy throws are a must-have for any home. Look for throws in festive colors like red or green, or with holiday-themed designs.
3. Wreaths: A wreath is a classic way to decorate your home for the holidays. Whether you hang it on your front door or inside your home, a wreath is a simple yet effective way to add some holiday spirit to your space.
4. Garland: Garland is a versatile holiday decoration that can be used in a variety of ways. Drape it along your fireplace mantle, wrap it around your stair railing, or use it to decorate your Christmas tree.
5. Candles: There’s nothing quite like the warm glow of candles to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Look for candles in holiday scents like peppermint or pine to add some festive cheer to your home.
6. Table Decor: Don’t forget about your dining table! Adding some holiday-themed placemats, napkins, or a table runner is an easy way to make your holiday meals feel extra special.
7. Bed Linens: I would recommend buying these new rather than used. I have found that Christmas bedding colors are super affordable on sites like Amazon during the summer, but they tend to tick upwards during the actual holiday season, so look for these now!
8. Ornaments: Ornaments aren’t just for the Christmas tree! Hang them from your chandeliers, on doorknobs, or even from your curtain rods for a festive touch throughout your home. Rummage sales and thrift shops are the best place to seek out these gems during the year.
By starting to buy these non-gift, home decor items now, you’ll be able to spread out the cost over several months and have your home looking festive and cozy in time for the holiday season. Happy decorating!
