Greetings, ghouls and ghosts and Happy Halfway to Halloween! Today, we embarked on a chillingly delicious adventure to Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs, where the spirits of Halloween danced in the air even though it’s only halfway to the spookiest night of the year!
We were SO disappointed that our road trip would have us on the road during Halfway to Halloween – a time that we usually reserve for spooky shenanigans. But as fate would have it, we landed in Florida JUST IN TIME for this spooky celebration at Gideon’s Bakehouse!
When we arrived in Disney Springs I was shocked to find that the line for Gideon’s literally wrapped around the corner of the building, and when I gathered up my courage to jump into line in the blistering Florida heat (go easy on me, I’m a new transplant from Washington!) we were again shocked to learn that the line was for those who already waited in the VIRTUAL LINE! Anyway, fast forward 2 hours, we were mere feet away from the front door aaaaaand….
A Gideon’s castmember announced that the Mephistophelittle’s Hand Pie – the flaky pastry bursting at the seams with chocolate chip cookie dough and dulce de leche, the monster-sized marvel that left all of Halloween crazy social media positively spellbound – HAD SOLD OUT. What an unpleasant trick for someone waiting 2 hours in line for a treat! *sob sob* BUT! They still had the Frankenstein Cookie!
As we strolled into the haunted halls of Gideon’s, we were greeted by the aroma of freshly baked treats and the sight of fellow Halloween enthusiasts eagerly clutching their loot from the Halfway to Halloween celebration. With my pumpkin-spice senses tingling, I dove headfirst into the festivities, determined to unearth all the tantalizing treasures Gideon’s had to offer. (This was my FIRST time visiting, after all!)
First up was the Frankenstein Cookie. Let’s just say it was a deliciously diabolical creation that had me cackling with delight as I devoured every last crumb. I was also excited to discover and learn more about the legendary Trading Card Series 3. Like a candy-seeking detective, I tore through our cookie box with the enthusiasm of a trick-or-treater on Halloween night. With each crinkle of wrapping paper, I felt the thrill of the hunt coursing through my veins. And lo and behold, nestled at the bottom of my cookie trove, I discovered not one, but TWO elusive chase cards!
Of course, no trip to Gideon’s would be complete without paying homage to the star of the show, the one and only Barnabas Mephistophelittle. After watching the crowds go by sporting their gear purchased online, I had to learn more… Clutching my exclusive promo card like a prized possession, I jumped online to peruse the eerie merchandise featuring Gideon’s Halfway to Halloween Ambassador. From collector’s pins to cold brew tumblers, it was a treasure trove of trinkets fit for a creature of the night.
As I bid farewell to Gideon’s Bakehouse, my belly full and my heart aglow with the spirit of Halloween, I couldn’t help but reflect on the magic of this monstrous celebration. Halfway to Halloween may only come once a year, but the memories of this spooktacular soirée will haunt me until the next time we meet again. I really do think I can get used to living in this wonderful, magical place!
Until then, my fellow fiends, stay spooky and always remember to save room for dessert!
Ghoulishly yours,
Gingi Freeman
