It’s May Fourth AND YOU KNOW THAT THAT MEANS!!! It’s STAR WARS DAY!!!
As per Star Wars Wiki: Star Wars Day is an informal commemorative day observed annually on May 4 to celebrate Star Wars. The date originated from the pun “May the Fourth be with you”, a variant of the popular Star Wars catchphrase “May the Force be with you”. Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans around the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and parent company Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.
My hubby and I have been celebrating the day with LOTS of Star Wars inspired recipes, some copycat recipes from Galaxy’s Edge, and some our own Star Wars inspired fandom steeped creations. I’ll be posting them all on my blog today, so watch out!
We also spent the morning watching Return of the Jedi (indisputably the best movie in the entire franchise) and I’ve been randomly belting out my own falsetto version of Carrie Fisher’s “Star Wars” song from the Star Wars Holiday masterpiece.
Anyhoo, on with the Star Wars recipes!
Next up is: Roast Krayt Dragon, a Star Wars fandom inspired recipe! The term “krayt dragon” refers to the large, carnivorous reptilian species that hails from Tatooine, the desert planet in the galaxy’s Outer Rim Territories.
Krayt dragons, despite their fierceness, are hunted for the precious pearls found in their bodies… and their meat, which is rendered fork-tender after long extended periods of roasting. Check it out!
You Will Need:
- 1 3-pound krayt dragon roast (beef roast also works well)
- Salt and pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 teaspoons flour
- 3 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- ½ teaspoon mustard
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 stalks of celery, sliced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- Season the meat liberally with salt and pepper, then brown in butter.
- In a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients together (except for the vegetables) to make a sauce.
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil to wrap the meat in. Spoon some sauce on the foil, place the meat on the foil, and then coat with the sauce. Place vegetables around and on top of the meat.
- Wrap the meat in foil and place in the oven at 250 degrees for 8 to 12 hours.
I hope you enjoy your slow roasted krayt dragon, AND, of course, MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!!!
not a fan of star war at all, but the roast looks terrific!
Thanks Angie! We had a lot of fun trying to make it look “otherwordly”!
