Hocus Pocus 2 is officially coming out on Disney+ on September 30 and I am SO READY for it!
I know everyone gets into playful “I’m a bigger fan than you are” spats over cult classics, but I really feel like I have a leg up here… I have been a huge Hocus Pocus fan since the movie first came out in theaters in the summer of 1993.
I was 8 years old at the time, and after multiple times watching in theaters, that Halloween my siblings and I ROCKED our costumes as the Sanderson Sisters and Billy Butcherson.
See this picture here? That’s little 8 year old me as Winifred Sanderson! (Aren’t I deliciously beautiful child? Makes me SICK!)
Anyhoo, as stated above, I am a HUGE Hocus Pocus fan and I am also an absolute sucker for themed foods and drinks. So it goes without saying that after waiting 30 years for the black flame candle to be lit again, I am going to make it a night of fun frolic and cozy up with a specialty cocktail and some themed munchies!
Check out this cocktail my husband whipped up (he is the KING of making new cocktails that, ya know, actually taste good!) and if you’re in need of some libations for the return of the Sanderson Sisters, give this one a try!
Purple Sanderson Sisters Hocus Pocus Cocktail with Edible Glitter
3 oz. white rum
1 oz. simple syrup
¾ oz. lemon juice
Can of lemon lime soda to fill the glass
Splash of grenadine
Pinch of purple edible glitter by Bakell
Green sugar sprinkles to rim the glass
Rim a glass with green sugar sprinkled. Pour all drink ingredients (except for the glitter!) into a shaker. Gently stir to blend, and then pour into your serving glass. Add purple edible glitter to desired color.
The key to this cocktail is, obviously, the edible glitter by Bakell. The glitter has no flavor which means it can be added to any beverage, but the glitter shows up best in clear drinks, so think sparkling waters, champagnes, white rums, lemon lime sodas, etc.
A little bit goes a LONG way. I literally used a SPRINKLE for these photos, ya’ll. All of Bakell’s glitters (and they have LOTS of colors to choose from!) are very pigmented so you don’t have to add a lot at all. If you add a good sized pinch (⅛ of teaspoon or so) it will make your standard sized drink (like a champagne flute) a SOLID wall of swirling glitter. I liked having some shimmery transparency (versus a solid color with glitter swirls) for this drink so the red grenadine float would initially be visible and we could get the full Sanderson Sister color palette – green sugar rim, purple glitter liquid, and red grenadine float – but after some experimentation, I decided I much preferred having a more solid purple so I could periodically stir the drink and watch the glitter swirl and shimmer all night. So you can definitely play with adding different amounts to achieve the look you like!
While any coloring the glitter provides will stay distributed, the glitter itself does sink after a few minutes. So be sure to have a spooky spoon or other themed cocktail stir handy so you can mix it a little before every sip and make your drink look spooky and fantastic the whole night.
However much you use, the shimmer in this drink is GORGEOUS! I love this edible glitter line so much… it has definitely upped my cocktail and home entertaining game. I’m stupid excited to play with this and craft some more yummy and spooktacular cocktails this Halloween season (keep an eye out for a Haunted Mansion themed cocktail on my blog SOON!).

Edible glitter?? Now I’ve seen it all. Would you defriend me if I confessed I’ve never seen the show??
But I will definitely make the drink. I used to be a huge grenadine fan.
