I’m on an ever evolving quest to get this whole work from home, homeschool mom, housekeeping thing down. And part of that journey is learning how to care for my space and my belongings in a way that WORKS and that MAKES SENSE for my family.
One of the things I have been doing is identifying things that I don’t do on a schedule or as part of a routine and deciding if maybe I need a routine or schedule there. For example, I am generally good about knowing when I need to vacuum the carpets or sweep and mop the floors… but I am totally spotty on when and even how I clean my indoor floor mats. I generally only touch those items if something is really obviously dirty or funky about them.
But considering we use these items DAILY, what is the ideal cleaning schedule for floor mats? So I took to the interwebs to consult those wiser than I on the art of homekeeping and I found that… drumroll….
Did you know that it is recommend you clean your indoor floor mats every 3-4 weeks? And in high traffic areas, like entryway mats – and areas where sanitation may be an issue, like bathrooms – it’s recommended that you clean your mats every WEEK?
Yeeeeah, I def haven’t been doing that. Oops. So I’m adding my floor mats to my rotation of regular cleaning and upkeep! I won’t get into the various methods of cleaning because that depends on your type of rug (for instance, my entryway mats are made of braided leather and need hand washing, my kitchen mats are wool and need gentle wash cycle and my bathroom mats can go on a sanitation cycle in the washing machine..) so just look up what works best for you and your various rugs!
Do you know of any other household items that don’t get washed or cleaned often enough? Share them with me!
I definitely have not done that either…thanks for sharing this information! Off to clean the mat 🙂
I vacuum them when I vacuum the floor. Sometimes move them but don;t change regularly.
