I have recently started mixing artificial plants in with my real plant collection, and I am always amused when visiting friends and family think the fake plants are living, and vice versa.
We had a friend who was house sitting for us actually WATER some of our fake plants! As far as realism goes, you can’t get much more legit than that!
I have recently discovered and fallen in love with the selection of plants at Silk Plants Direct (click here to visit), and you really cannot go wrong with anything you purchase from that site.
But for the new converts to fake plants in the home, there are some varieties that you will not have to ever worry about looking fake. I have come to realize that some artificial plants translate really well into appearing to be real, and some, not so well. Of course, regardless of the variety you choose, QUALITY is a big consideration. If you buy cheap fake plants, they will look fake and cheap. If you buy quality fake plants, like from silkplantsdirect.com you will have friends watering your plastic fern. #fact
Now, I have had a couple of friends inform me, after closer inspection, that certain plants of mine appear to be fake. These are usually plants with delicate stems / or complex leaf patterns. And that’s okay. I have these ones tucked into corners where they just give a splash of lushness without being center stage in the room décor.
But the plants that fool everyone EVERY TIME are almost always succulents and orchids. There is already a natural rubber / silky quality to these live plants, that translates really well into artificial plants. I have had people HANDLE my artificial orchids from Silk Plants Direct and give the verdict, “That’s a real orchid!” Part of the illusion is that Silk Plants Direct focuses on little details like the roots being partially exposed, and the faux water droplets on the bottom of the root ball… it is REALLY convincing!
Additionally, the succulents from Silk Plants Direct have some lighter and darker toned stems and areas, which is realistic for actual succulents that are sensitive to watering and light requirements. When you get a uniformly green plant, people assume “fake”… even when it is real! The succulents from Silk Plants Direct also sport heavy floral wire inside the stems, allowing for rearranging and staging the plants to maximum effect. They also provide just the right amount of springiness, so that upon touch and inspection, the still look and feel convincingly real!
Since succulents are fairly inexpensive and low maintenance, I would personally spring for orchids if you wanted to dip your toes into the waters of artificial plants… orchids require more care, with strict water, light, and fertilizing requirements. So going fake with and orchid just makes sense if you are trying to bring more natural elements into your home, but don’t want to increase your workload. I have yet to see a more convincing artificial orchid than the one I own from Silk Plants Direct (no exaggeration, I actually did some shopping around, and this brand cannot be beat!)
I just bookmarked that site to buy more fake plants later on. I do have a few artificial plants especially in my bathroom but I would like to get a few more.
Yeah, they are great investment for home decor! I am falling in love with them!
This its the type of plant I need since I really do not have a green thumb lol.
I love these plants, they are so cute!
Kisses, Paola.
Pinning this. I had no idea where to get silk plants from. Yours do look real.
Thanks for the pin! And yeah, they really do look super real, even better in person!
Considering how I am failing to keep my plants alive, then maybe I really should start thinking about fake plants xD Especially since they look so real!
They really do! You have to see them to believe it!
You’ve got beautiful plants. They always bring lots of light and beauty to one home, lovely!

Yes, I think a room without greenery is so dull!
Wow! those plants look so real Gingi, so funny your friend watered some of the fake ones. Take care!
Yeah, I laughed pretty hard when he told me! I was dusting my plants, and pulled the fake plant out of the pot to dust and he was like, “WHAT?!?!”
Ooh I love it. I should try using more fake plants around the house. We have a few mason jars with some fake plants/flowers on the kitchen table.
I try to stay away from fake flowers, since they tend to look really cheesy if not high quality (which usually means lots of $$$), but these succulents and orchids are my compromise! They look PERFECT!
I’m not a fan of artificial flowers and plants. I have lots of dried local flowers which I keep in water.
How do the dried flowers look? Now you have me intrigued!
Wow, they look amazing and no need to water!!
Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Yup, most visitors to my home never guess they are artificial!
So beautiful decir ideas

With a black thumb like mine, fake plants would be the way to go.
They look so real!
Considering I to have a black thumb when it comes to taking care of plants, artificial ones are a must in our home. I also love the perennial aspect of them. These look great!
Yeah, I love that these mimic plants natural imperfections and color gradations!
I love the option for artificial, especially of plants that I wouldn’t be able to have with cat who loves to eat everything he shouldn’t, haha! Thanks for sharing, babe, and I hope you have a great weekend ahead!

Ohhhhhh, my cats STILL try to eat my fake plants! haha! (But then again, my cats are exceptionally dumb! 😉
These do look real and I love the distressed pot! Commercial Silk has so many great products, just love them! I never keep indoor plants alive, I am better at outdoor gardening! lol!

I am better at outdoor gardening too, but I used to be DECENT with indoor greens… theeeen I had kids! lol
Wait… these aren’t real??? The look pretty darn real to me. My apartment isn’t as sunny as I would like it to be. I need to add a few of these artificial succulents to my space.
Doooooooooooooooooooo it!!!
wonderful flowers, seems realistic
new post on my blog
have an happy day, kisses
Interesting post https://bysinkj.blogspot.com
Wow I have to admit these really look real. And yeah it is good to mix it up. Real ones and a few fakes thrown in for color and then you do not have to water or replace. So a win win for sure.

Yup!! I am loving this system!
Omg these look so pretty and real! Love this type of plant. <3
The fake orchid sounds like a great option!
I need to buy some great quality artificial plants… I used to be able to grow plants many years ago… then I had to give my plants away due to my cats… after which I even killed a cactus… I promptly gave up plants after that… Oh and funny story, my great aunt had a plant she wanted regularly until someone pointed out to her it was fake… haha xox
That is a hilarious story!!! and killing a cactus?!?!??! YIKES!!! That takes some skill!! haha
Silk Plants direct is amazing, you said the plants fooled some people and they fooled me, too! I think I would do like the plant sitter, I would water the plants! As I usually like to be mobile, travelling, these plants are perfect for me, they really really are! I like plants in the decoration, but as I said, having to water them is difficult – but no I will look for these very realistic ones! Thanks for that! Hope you have a very nice weekend!

Yay!!! I am so glad you found my post helpful Denise!!! <3
These look awesome and never heard of that site before – thanks!
That’s tricky! Sometimes it’s hard to tell when a fake plant is fake, though.
I really should get artificial plants as no matter how hard I try I always end up killing the real ones. I hate artificial plants that look really cheap and fake but I can’t believe how real these ones look, especially the orchid. It just goes to show that you can get some really good quality ones and you know they are going to last and won’t need any looking after 🙂 x
Yeah, the orchid is the most impressive one in my opinion… even the WATER in the container looks real!!!
Wow Gingi, what a cool idea! This is perfect for a person like me who’s not that great with plants and flowers. I also have to say that I’m super impressed with your book collection! Hugs…
Hahaha, thanks.. I am a book packrat!!!
;D
Aqui em casa tem várias plantas artificiais!
Ótimo domingo!
Beijo! ^^
Artificial plants are great, especially for darker cornerns. I have also started to mix artificial with real plants and they look so real that people often can’t tell the difference. The collection at silk plants direct looks beautiful.

Glad to hear I am not the only one who uses the real and fake mixture approach!!
I don’t, but I have been contemplating getting a few for my basement. It is where I film and plants look lovely as background, but don’t survive down there.
Sounds like a perfect solution for you!!!
These plants looks so real, I dont have any artifishial one in my home because my husband dosen’t like them…
Gosh, I’m in love with your plants, dear! xoxo
i have an aunt who is addicted to buying plants… even though she forgets about them in plain sight and then they (shocking, i know) die. these might be good birthday gifts for her (;
Lol, that is a thoughtful if not slightly awkward gift idea! “Hey auntie, I know you have a tendency to kill things…” 😉
Super cool!! Have a nice monday sweetie!

These artificial plants looks really good.
I really like their stuff I should consider it….says the girl who just trough out another live dead plant this weekend!
Hahahaha, if I added up the total cost of all the plants I killed, I could outfit my whole house with quality faux plants! 😉
Great post! Beautiful flowers!
