As a homeschool mom to 3 kiddos, I’ve had it relatively easy – my two oldest kiddos are just 18 months apart, and so teaching the ABC’s and 123’s has been easy to lump together for a seamless school day.
Buuuuuuut, now my youngest child – who is almost 4 years younger than my middle child – is about to start structured homeschool this coming fall. (Up to now he has had free play style education while the girls do “school school”, no real structured learning except for what he has absorbed through being in the room with the older kids.)
One of the things I actually secretly dread as a homeschool mom, is rediscovering a good “flow” for our family when the kids are on COMPLETELY different levels of learning. The girls will be doing 2nd to 4th grade tasks, while Rowan will be starting kindergarten this fall. How in the heck is this going to work?!
From what I’ve gleaned from homeschool moms far more experienced than myself, is that I need to embrace the tools, toys and resources that allow for mutual synergistic side-by-side learning. Easier said than done, I’m sure, but I am delighted to share with you guys this fun educational toy from Edxeducation that my kids have been having a blast with.
This GeoStix Letter Construction Set by Edxeducation (CLICK HERE to Buy) is an educational toy made up of 200 connecting sticks with 50 activity cards which prompt kids to build letters, animals and more.
This means that while my youngest can be learning his ABC’s and 123’s, and practicing fine motor skills with free play, my older kiddos can challenge themselves with the more advanced designs (I was actually surprised at how challenging some of the designs were!) and can expand creativity with their own original designs.
This little kit is EASILY great for kindergarten to pre-teen ages, there is a lot of room for creativity and the play time can be as simple or challenging as the child wants.

My kids (especially my son Rowan, aged 4) had a lot of fun with this kit, and I know that this will be a tool we bring out frequently in the coming school year, and even over our summer break.
I am especially excited at the prospect of using this to encourage letter recognition within our kindergarten curriculum. My son already has an innate desire to build and connect thing (magnetic building blocks, at the moment, are his ABSOLUTE favorite), so this is right up his alley and will get LOTS of use for effortless learning and productive playtime!
