Spring is here, and that means it’s time to ditch the dry, cracked lips of winter and embrace a smooth, soft pout. One of the best ways to achieve this is by using a lip scrub!
I recently received a lip scrub in my Ipsy box, and while it is a lovely product, I’m reminded that my favorite lip scrubs – which are fun to make, and SO much superior! – are the homemade kind with fresh, seasonal ingredients that really embrace the seasons and the holidays.
Just like the more popular body scrubs, lip scrubs are a great way to exfoliate away dead skin cells, leaving your lips feeling soft and smooth. Plus, making your own lip scrub is easy and allows you to customize the ingredients to your liking!
Here are three DIY lip scrub recipes featuring seasonal flavors and ingredients:
1. Brown Sugar and Honey Lip Scrub:
– 1 tbsp melted coconut oil
– 1 tbsp honey
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
This is a straight forward scrub that is a bit more abrasive than the granulated sugar scrubs. It’s great for the initial scrubbing off of dead skin if you don’t already have a lip scrub routine down. Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it helps to hydrate and lock in moisture, while coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that nourish and protect the skin.
2. Lemon and Lavender Lip Scrub:
– 1 tbsp jojoba
– 1 tbsp honey
– 1 tsp dried lavender buds
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1 tbsp lemon zest
Lemon is a natural exfoliant, helping to slough away dead skin cells. Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties, making it great for soothing and calming irritated skin. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamin E, which helps to nourish and protect the skin.
3. Honey and Mint Lip Scrub:
– 1 tbsp coconut oil
– 1 tbsp honey
– 1/2 tsp mint extract
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Mint has a cooling effect, making it great for soothing and refreshing the skin, and this is a great ingredient to really pull out your pout! Coconut oil and honey provide nourishing and hydrating benefits.
To use these lip scrubs, simply apply a small amount to your lips and gently massage in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Follow up with your favorite lip balm for added hydration.
In addition to leaving your lips feeling smooth and soft, these DIY lip scrubs also provide a fun and indulgent self-care experience. So, why not try making one (or all three!) of these lip scrubs and give your lips the love they deserve this spring?
