I have to admit, I got inspired to write this post after seeing a compilation of aphorisms for men on a blog my husband reads, The Art of Manliness. And I thought, this is SO COOL. Why not make a similar list for us old fashioned gals?
In my heart of hearts, I’m a home loving, apron clad house wife that wants nothing more than to clean house, cook yummy meals, and greet the husband in a spotless apron. I’ve always had a romantic heart for the 1920’s, Victorian, Edwardian and Industrial Eras. Nothing makes me melt into a puddle of contentment more than an Edison lightbulb flickering over a phonograph horn.
So I jumped on this chance to compile 20 of my favorite aphorisms, aimed toward are you like-minded old fashioned gals out there!
Aphoristic statements are intended to contain universal truths in a short amount of words. Scores of philosophers, politicians, writers, artists and other individuals are remembered for their famous aphoristic statements.
These include proverbs, maxims, adages and clichés and they are often passed on from generation to generation and frequently appear in our day-to-day speech. I had fun scrounging around for some vintage imagery on the interwebs to accompany the quotes I picked.. I hope you enjoy the 20 I picked to share, and do let me know what YOUR favorite aphorisms are below!
Did I miss your favorite aphorism? Let me know in the comments!
I love that! All those are things we need to remember and live by 🙂
I enjoyed all the aphorisms .. thank you ..
I like “Brevity is the soul of wit” and “Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses” ..
the other aphorism I love to use is “Smile and the world smiles with you, frown and you frown alone” .. “when all else fail, laugh” ..
Ohhh, I like those! Thank you for sharing!
