Our 4th of July (And Belated Father’s Day) Imagery!
5 July, 20142 Min Read
Highlights of this 4th of July:
– Accidentally catching the dog on fire with illegal fireworks and than laughing too hard to go help put him out. (It sounds far more heartless and cruel than it is but really it was.. okay, so maybe it was a LITTLE heartless and cruel. But it was really funny and he’s okay, beyond a few scorch marks..)
– Eating yummy hamburgers off of the new grill Jonathan’s parents got us.
– The annual epic snap battle in the backyard, where we throw the tiny white bombs at each other in a breathless fight that rivals those of our Founding Fathers. (Much less bloody and world changy and freedom-y albeit.)
– Watching the “must have got those from Mexico” fireworks lighting up over all the housetops in our new, classic slice of Americana neighborhood. Tessa was somewhere between apprehensive and delighted, and watched in wided eyed wonder and bouncy smiles the entire night.
– Laying in bed unable to sleep while a VERY hyper Tessa crawled all over us, chattering and bouncing and otherwise burning off all the excess “just watched fireworks for the first time” energy.
I was so distracted running around trying to get the place cleaned up, and food prepared, and other odd jobs done leading up to our 4th of July BBQ, that I ended up taking half a dozen pictures. All of them being Jonathan and his dad building the grill.
The above photo is one my sister took on her iPhone. So my 4th of July photography = fail. My plan is to wait for dusk tonight and take baby girl outside with the sparklers and tiny fireworks we saved and get some pictures of her watching them. So hopefully the classic and cliche tiny face illuminated by the soft glow of explosive freedom aren’t completely lost.
All this photo talk has reminded me that I have a ton of photos from Father’s Day at Bravo Farms in Traver, CA that I have yet to share with ya’ll! This is the same location we spent Mother’s Day, and it is pretty much our go-to outing on a budget place. My parents and sister joined us for some petting zoo, shooting gallery and sandbox fun! Check out some of the photos from our day below!
