About a year ago, I went bamboo crazy, and started buying bamboo EVERYTHING. Bamboo fabric, bamboo paper.. you name it! This is one awesome sauce substance that is good for the planet.
Bamboo is botanically classified as a grass and might just be the most sustainable, natural resource the world has. Not only is bamboo 100% biodegradable, but bamboo shoots grow 24 to 36 inches every 24 hours!
Not only is this a fast growing resource, but the hard density of the wood resists water penetration and prevents bacteria and fungus growth. (This is why bamboo is often used as a surface for cutting boards β itβs anti-bacterial and anti-fungal!)
This is why bamboo is AWESOME for a toothbrush. There are 4.7 billion plastic toothbrushes produced annually,Β with each brush lasting about 1000 years if you were to dump it into a compost heap. (Compare this to bamboo, which take roughly 6 months to biodegrade in a compost heap.) It is estimated that over 80 million pounds of toothbrushes are thrown into North American landfills each year.
Iβm not the tree hugger type (well, maybe just a little), but this is unacceptable. We can do better than this. We can do.. BAMBOO!
I recently stumbled upon Brush Naked 100% bamboo toothbrushes, and was crazy anxious to give these handsome looking brushes a try. Brush Naked brushes are 100% bamboo, even the bristles are bamboo wood fibers!
The reason why the bamboo bristles are so cool, is that many people (myself included) get duped by so-called βeco friendlyβ toothbrushes, which often use nylon bristles which have to be plucked out before disposal. I bought some βbamboo eco-friendlyβ brushes before, and this was the case. LAME!
But the folks are Brush Naked are legit. Everything surrounding these brushes is created by nature, from the packaging to the product itself – they just assemble!
Done with your toothbrush? Stick it in your compost heap and then compost your backyard garden. Easy peasy breezy!
An added bonus with this company? They have childrenβs brushes! My two year old love doing whatever mommy is doing, and she loves that he toothbrush looks just like mommies! (Of course this also means she often steals my actual brush, as she did with some of these photos, haha!)

I did not realize that’s why cutting boards where made of bamboo. I just bought some recently and didn’t think to figure that one out. I love the idea of a biodegradable toothbrush. I’m definitely going to give these a try! My son loves brushing his teeth, so we’ll have to get him one too. Though the one he currently has lights up so we will have to find a way to compete with that!
Yeah, I only buy bamboo cutting boards for that very reason! <3 <3
Wonderful picture!
Have a nice week-end!

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been trying to make an effort to switch to more eco-friendly and biodegradable products. Toothbrushes are a great place to start with small changes. Definitely going to look into getting us some brushednaked toothbrushes!! <3
Thank you for the review, Gingi. I’m assuming that you need to replace them the same as regular toothbrushes because of the breakdown of the bristles? Aside from being eco friendly, they’re pretty! Tessa is so darn cute!
Yeah, from what I understand they have about the same “life” as a conventional brush.. and I think she’s pretty dang cute myself! π
Ohh I had never heard of a bamboo toothbrush before! It sounds very good, and does look very pretty! Thank you for sharing this with us!

would you like to pass from my blog?
I wish you an happy day
a big kiss
I’m gonna write my letter to Santa right now to get one for Christmas!
Tessa’s an adorable little minx.
We got greenscamed, DO NOT COMPOST THIS TOOTHBRUSH! The bristles are NOT “bamboo wood fibers”! It is plastic/synthetic! I contacted the manufacturer in China, they do not have any certificates that bristles are compostable. Paint probably also is not compostable.
Hey, it’s been a while (too long) since I’ve checked in on your blog. I’ve been looking for a great natural tooth brush option. Can’t wait to check this out! Also, I’m dying over all over your cosplay costumes! AMAZING!!!
Oh these sound great, I bet they have them at the Whole Foods near where I work, thanks for sharing.
