Post-baby, my face hasn’t been as kind to me as it once was. Random acne outbreaks, blotchy complexion, oily skin one day and dry as a bone the next… So I’ve been taking some pains to pamper myself and get this shiz under control!
I’ve been experimenting with different natural home remedies and ingredients from skin care, and I have settled on my favorites. The other day I decided why not throw all my favorite TOGETHER for an epic face mask of awesome? (I usually use all these beauties separately..)
This is now going to be a REGULAR in my pampering routine! Check it out!
You Will Need
1 tablespoon bentonite clay (I use Redmond’s Clay)
3 tablespoons coconut milk
8 drops of argan oil
In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients, giving the clay time to absorb the coconut milk.
Then, just apply a thin layer (about 1/8 inch thick) over your face and neck areas, allow to dry for 20-30 minutes. You’ll feel the clay shrinking down on your skin, its kind of trippy. Once the clay has dried to a white color and started cracking, just remove with warm water!
Why These Ingredients
Bentonite Clay –
Bentonite clay has been used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes since ancient times. I prefer to use Redmond’s Bentonite Clay because it is a natural, edible healing clay with no additives, chemicals or preservatives.
At a molecular level, bentonite clay has a negative electrical charge. The formation of bentonite resembles teeny tiny business card shapes, with negatively charged wide surfaces and positively charged edges, providing a surprisingly high surface area and powerful drawing effects. Since nature hates a lonely ionic bond, each negatively charged ion attracts a substance carrying a positively charged ion. As most toxins, heavy metals and free radicals are positively charged, the clay eagerly pulls out the toxins by adsorption, naturally ridding your skin of these harmful elements.
Additionally, bentonite is one of the only clay’s with the ability to absorb toxins as well as adsorb them. So while working as toxin magnet, bentonite clay also works as a sponge, soaking in infections and harmful toxins into the core of the clay, to be eliminated as waste.
Bentonite is one power puncher for your skins overall health and well-being. This powerful clay helps to clarify skin, remove excess oil, shrink pores, draw out toxins, tone skin, remove impurities, and deep clean. AND it’s safe for all skin types!
Coconut Milk –
Coconut milk is a liquid extracted from grated coconut. (Don’t confuse it with coconut water, which is obtained from inside the coconut shells!) The milk is rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 as well as iron, selenium, calcium, iron, magnesium and phosphorus which contribute to a smooth and radiant skin.
The distinctive fatty acids coconut milk contains – particularly lauric acid – makes coconut milk antibacterial and antiviral. Both of these properties help fight free radicals that skin is often exposed to, and helps gives skin an overall firmer appearance.
The fatty acids are also moisturizing and nourishing. It’s exceptionally great for oily skin because the fatty acids that coconut milk is known for are naturally antiseptic and do not have a habit of clogging pores, meaning you can clean and hydrate your skin at the same time.
Coconut milk also improves skin elasticity due to its copper and vitamin C content. These nutrients slow down the ageing process of your skin and body by maintaining flexibility and elasticity of the skin and blood vessels. Thus, it prevents wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots.
Argan Oil –
With its high vitamin E and fatty acid content, argan oil is the ideal product to give skin a natural boost! It absorbs easily and is non-greasy and non-irritating, which makes it a great natural moisturizer.
One of the main reasons that argan oil is so healing, is that it is rich with vitamin A and vitamin E. However, argan oil is also packed with anti-oxidants, Omega-6 fatty acids, and linoleic acid. Research shows that when applied to skin, it eases inflammation while moisturizing the skin.
When applied externally, trocopherol from the vitamin E helps to boost cell production while promoting healthy skin. As with coconut milk, the vitamin A and vitamin E can help to reduce fine wrinkles and sagging skin, and keep skin looking young, fresh and glowing!
Give it a try! I love this face mask and just had to share with you guys! <3
Wow … must say I haven’t used a face mask in years …
I think our hormones post baby often take longer to calm down than we first think, and they can often cause havoc with our skin and body.
Gingi, this sounds like a divine face mask… I haven’t used a clay one for years… I do love the feeling of it on my skin with drying… it feels like it tightens everything up… I will have to try this out.. Where do you purchase the bentonite clay? I will have to research that on line xox
Yeah, the tightening effect is awesome.. and my skin does look and feel tighter afterward! And so soft! I get my clay off of Amazon, and I love using Redmond brand!
I love this idea! I used to be really good about coconut oil (I have super oily skin) but haven’t used it as much lately. Will have to check out the clay!
Having recently been diagnosed with rosacea I’m on the look out for natural products like this so thank you for sharing these recipes. Now I just need to track down the bentonite clay you mention.
Hi there, I noticed you mentioned you have occasional breakouts, and I wanted to say that Argan Oil isn’t the best for acne prone skin. Evening Primrose Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, or Rosehip Oil are better options due to their concentrations of linoleic acid, which acne-prone skin is typically deficient in. Argan and coconut oil contain oleic acid, which has been proven to be the oil that is produced in excess and causes breakouts. Check out this article I found, it’s gotten me on the track of healing my acne!!
