While I primarily blog about home improvement, parenting and geeky topics, many of you know that I am hopelessly addicted to following fashion bloggers.
I cant get enough! I have a slew of favorite fashion bloggers that I visit on a near daily basis, and I during my pregnancy and weight loss journey I have dreamed of jumping on the fashion blogger bandwagon.
When I was given the chance to blog about a custom made eShakti dress, I was flippin ecstatic. YES PLEASE! This is it, my huge segue into fashion blogging!! I ordered a gorgeous red plaid holiday dress with custom specification and eagerly stared at my mailbox for two weeks till it arrived, dreaming about modeling it for you lovely ladies.
I even PMed some of you fashion bloggers I subscribe to, to excitedly share the good news! I am going to start fashion blogging! Any tips for this newbie?
After getting way too excited, and way to worked up over this blog post, I got all ready to pose for this photos and THEN….!!!
My toddler head butted me and broke my tooth in half.
The tooth was so damaged, it was not saveable. My dentist told me I needed a new false tooth, and until it could be crafted / ordered, I needed a temporary false tooth. Yay!
Since I have a needle phobia, they drugged me up, numbed my face, and went to work on my tooth. I came home, half drugged, and thought that a bottle of pinot noir sounded magical.
Half way into the bottle of wine, I remember, oh SHIT, I was going to be magical fashionista model of awesome. Well, who says I still cant be?!
So lo and behold.. my first full on fashion shoot – and I am half drunk, medicated, and too tired to wear any makeup in it. (Classy bitch that I be!)
So anyway, on to the actual review!! (Took me long enough, eh?!)
For those of you who aren’t familiar with eShakti, they are an online women’s clothing retailer based out of India – their site is in English though, fear not! They offer semi-customizable clothing at fairly affordable prices, and they ship to Canada and the US. Their inventory changes frequently, the site offers coupons to new users, has sales on a regular basis, offers a wide range of sizes, and perhaps most appealing of all, allows you to customize certain elements of the garments you purchase from them at the time of order.
The real appeal of eShakti that sets them apart from other online clothing shops, is that every item is fully customizable (some styles more than others). You can choose your size and height or put in custom measurements. I found that I am a standard medium size so I chose that, and went with a customizable height and dress trim length.
I thought it was funny that there was a free option to remove pockets. Who would ever remove pockets from dresses?!?! I pay EXTRA for dresses with pockets! LoL!
Considering that the garments were coming from India (and were shipped during the busy holiday season mail rush), they arrived relatively quickly (about two weeks, I think).
I am super thrilled with this dress, and plan to wear the crap out of it this holiday season… you simply cannot go wrong with red plaid during Thanksgiving and Christmas! It fits like a glove, the workmanship is superb, and IT HAS POCKETS!!!!
I am so excited about this gorgeous addition to my wardrobe, and while I may not look it because I was hopped up on prescription grade medication to dull the ache of losing a whole frikkin tooth, I am in love with the craftsmanship of eShakti!
Very very pretty! What is the fabric?
It is a wool blend… does it look purty?!?!?!
ouch re the tooth! that could not have been pleasant at all. I really like the look of this dress. And I agree, who would want to remove the pockets?
Ya know, the initial head butt wasnt so painful.. it was when it chipped further when I was biting my nails (bad habit, I know) that it REALLY started hurting!! Yikes!
you look great! Congrats on the first fashion post, I love that plaid dress

Thanks Laura! <3
First I like the dress and you are right plaid is a classic that is always in style and looks amazing for the holidays xox
Gingi… wow, that must have been so painful to have your front tooth damaged like that… it was one of my fears when I had children… I have been head butted and I feel pretty lucky that I didn’t end up losing my tooth… (I too am very fearful of needles but more so of the ones that go in my mouth… )
Yeah, I HATE needles. I did pretty well with this shot, only because my tooth hurt so bad that it was already a throbbing mass of ickiness.. but I will be happy when this whole ordeal is over.. my new permanent tooth doesnt get put in till mid-January! YIKES!
The dress looks great Gingi! You make me think that spending a few extra minutes on my appearance certainly would’ t hurt since my day to day wear is sweats. But the dress actually looks comfortable and that’s the important part!!
Hahaha, I am usually the last person to inspire those thought… I quit wearing makeup a couple years ago, and my go to attire is usually a step above yoga pants.. or, ya know.. just yoga pants…
Wow, what a cute dress. The whole outfit rocks. So sorry about the tooth!
Doing photoshoots can be hard, especially when you’re both the model and the photographer. My toughest was one of my earliest. I shot myself UPSIDE DOWN, balancing on a chair with my legs in the air. The pictures were great but my muscles ached for days afterward.
(You can see them here — http://shybiker.blogspot.com/2011/02/leggings-with-twist.html )
Oh my gosh, I have to check this out!!! Hahaha… what a fun story! My husband is my photographer whenever I need to model, but I am so picky I usually get all bossy about each shot haha.. happy he loves me, and is patient with me! <3
OMG! Good for you for doing this on your own! I would haver been sick!
bisous

The dress is beautiful! It fits you so well. And you did a great job being a profesh fashion blogger! Clearly, a glass of pinot is the answer. Hope your tooth is feeling better already!
Haha, a glass of pinot is ALWAYS the answer! 😉
In the midst of the craziness you’re looking so cute, friend. Comfortable, too …
Sure hope you’re doing better with the trauma of it all.
Peace, peace.
Awww, thank you Linda! The dress IS crazy comfy!
Hehe, you look stunning in that dress 😀 It really suits you!
Sorry to hear about your tooth, must have been a painful thing to happen 🙁 But the backstory it gave to this photoshoot was fantastic 😀
Hahaha, right?! I personally would have preferred a more pleasant backstory… 😉

Sorry to hear about your tooth experience, but you did an excellent job on your first fashion blog. The dress is pretty and looks so comfortable. You can never go wrong wearing anything that has pockets and a glass of pinot makes everything better!!
YESSSSSS!!! Seriously thinking of grabbing another glass right now and might just wear this dress to the zoo today!
I’ve just been asked to do a similar post by the same company. I agree about the pockets. What weirdo doesn’t want pockets?
The dress is lovely. Great choice for the holidays.
I’ve had photo sessions with my husband that almost lead to divorce. I decided to buy a tripod instead. Now I suffer through photo shoots with my pug hovering in the background.

I am absolutely obsessed with this dress! Between watching Brigadoon repeatedly as a child and buying my family tartan on our 2014 trip to Scotland, I just love plaid! And the draping on this dress is truly lovely. With the mess of a day/week you were having, I’m impressed you got it together enough for a photo shoot! The wine helped, I’m sure! lol
