Gibraltar Old Towne Cast Aluminum Wall Mount Mailbox GIVEAWAY!!
2 December, 20155 Min Read
I have been in home renovation mode for, oh, about two years now. (Has nothing to do with buying our first home two years ago. Really. *shifty eyes*)
With two girls under two, little to no time and even less money to focus on home upgrades, I have mastered the art of home improvement on a budget and a tight schedule. I have discovered that it is actually far easier to do noticeable home upgrades for under $100 and under one hour than I had ever imagined.
I know I have already blogged about replacing light fixtures and replacing power outlet faceplates in the past, but I really do need to add a new low budget / high impact home upgrade to the list… replacing your mailbox!
Our home had an ugly wall mounted mailbox on it. I mean, fugly ugly. Kind of wish I had taken a picture of it before chucking it in the wastebin now. This thing was so old, that the name crudely stamped onto the box had not the previous owners, but the owners before THEM scrawled on it! (I am talking, like, ten, fifteen years ago.)
I searched around the interwebs for classy wall mounted mailboxes that would combine durability with artistry – something vintage looking but still modern and relevant – and something that would fit in my budget of $100 or less. And I found Gibraltar Mailboxes! When I reached out, they offered to provide a mailbox for giveaway to my readers! So enter below for your chance to win, but FIRST! Lets learn more about this fantastic company!
Solar Group, Inc. began in 1957 as a hardware manufacturing company. Over the past 50 years they acquired several small companies and became The Solar Group manufacturing mainly mailboxes. The Solar Group products are marketed throughout the U.S., Canada, Japan and Germany.
In 1998 The Solar Group was acquired by Gibraltar Industries, a leading manufacturer, processor, and distributor of metals and other engineered materials. Now The Solar Group is the leading manufacturer of mailboxes in North America and possibly the world, producing approximately six million mailboxes a year. Our mailboxes are made in a variety of sizes, colors, and materials including galvanized steel, satin nickel, cast aluminum, aluminum, plastic, and cedar. Some of our major mailbox customers are Wal-Mart, The Home Depot, Menards, Target, ACE Hardware, and Lowe’s. It is also the exclusive brand licensee of Rubbermaid® postal products.
My Thoughts on the Gibraltar Old Towne Mailbox
First off, it was hard to pick a mailbox from Gibraltar, because they have quite a selection of boxes with all kinds of unique charms. My home is rather eclectic in its décor, so really any box would have worked for my home, but the Old Towne seem to just *click* for me!
Add a touch of elegance to your home with the Olde Towne cast aluminum wall mount mailbox. Its weather-durable, powder coated finish will not rust. Its large capacity allows the mailbox to hold a variety of mail. The hand crafted ivy design adds a distinctive touch. Mounting hardware is sold separately.
As you can see in the photos, this is a very attractive and rather heavy duty mailbox. There is really nothing I dislike about it. It was so easy to install, took literally five minutes to mount on the wall! The box is deep and holds a large amount of letters – it can even hold multiple magazines and over-sized mail. While I doubt that it is completely weatherproof for severe weather areas, the mail is adequately protected from rain and moisture, and for a wall mounted box (close to the house and under an eave) I don’t anticipate any problem even on the rainiest days.
The box is surprisingly heavy for its size and the only potential downfall of this box is that the lid is heavy and as such, clanks when the lid is dropped. But I actually like hearing the lid close when the mailman inserts the mail. My old box did that (though it was more of a clatter than a clank) and it alerts me that the mailed has been delivered. I am a bit of mail junky.. even when I’m not expecting mail I get giddy at the sight of the mailman, haha.
As far as comparisons to the old box I had – my old mailbox lid opened further, but the decreased range of motion in the Gibraltar does not hinder the dropping off or picking up of mail so it’s really a non-issue. And as to looks? Sweet goodness, this mailbox is soooooo much nicer than my old one. Amazing upgrade that in slam dunk for increased curb appeal for my home.

I love your new mailbox. I love that you were able to find one for under $100. I currently don’t need a new mailbox, but next time I do I will give them a try. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Yeah, I was kind of shocked to see the price of mailboxes, and most are so plain and ugly! This one is usually a steal on Amazon.com AND it is available with Prime shipping! <3
Given that I live in the UK I’m always fascinated by the whole mailbox concept. So much scope to do things (the mailbox you share is lovely), I guess our letter boxes are boring in this respect.
By the way I hope you don’t mind my sharing this on my FaceBook page.
Hi Gingi, I love the olde town look of this postbox. And with the company having loads to choose from they must have a type to suit any house. It sounds as if it is built to last, and you’ve got in just in time for the influx of Christmas cards you ma receive.
I just love this mailbox! I’m ashamed to admit that I am just using my old paper box as my mailbox, it’s the last thing I’ve thought of replacing but now I realize how ugly it is and detracts from the house. Great find, thank you for the info!
When I get an actual mailbox… That’s when I know… I am an ADULT!
Hahaha, look at me adulting all over the place! Woot!
Gigi… this is a pretty mailbox, if I owned my own home I would want one like this… good luck to everyone who enters xox

That is adorable! I am jealous! We have a community wide mailbox with our own little box, I really miss having my own.
I have not yet had to do a community mailbox, but Id imagine that would get a little old after awhile, especially if its quite a ways from your home!
That mailbox is stunning! It makes me wish I had a house.

We are remodeling the outside of our home with new siding and windows. This would be a great replacement for our old wooden mailbox…
