I was born and raised into Renaissance Faires. These events are seriously in my blood.
My parents had a game booth called Patch and Pixie Pastimes, and my first Faire was as a two month old, being pulled around in a wooden cart that my dad made by hand. Some of my fondest memories are of growing up working the booth, traveling to Faires all across California, and basically being a Faire brat through and through.
Now, I have kiddos of my own. My parents no longer work the Ren. Faire circuit and we go to Ren. Faire events as spectators. And I realized that I do not want my little girls missing out on the fun of a childhood at Faire. There is a certain element to the events that you just cannot get while being an outsider looking in, even in garb. So, after much prompting from our good friends Chris and Khristine, we asked / begged / demanded to join the House of Tudor, based in Central California.
Without getting too wordy because, 1) My husband wants the laptop back so he can play video games (NERD!) and 2) There really is too much to talk about; let me just say that we had a blast at Kearney Renaissance Faire this weekend! Everyone made us feel extremely welcome, and I feel like I have come back home, in a weird intangible sense… as though no time has passed and I never left Faire at all. And above all, I am so happy to see my children having fun, being welcomed, and having the next generation of Faire folk to play with. I seriously could not be happier.
Below are some of the photos I took at Kearney Faire in Fresno, California this weekend! If you see yourself in an image, feel free to grab a copy for your personal use! <3 <3 <3

You should check to see what Faires are in your area (if you havent already!)
Oh my heart! This makes me so nostalgic for Faire! I’m so glad your girls are getting to have this childhood experience. I still have the little noble dress you wore when you went to your first Faire, we should make a rag doll for the girls & dress it up! Seeing the noble dresses makes me want to make one…if could even remember how. Where/when is the next Faire?
Not till Visalia, I think! I am planning on making the whole family noble garb, although I dont know the likelihood that it will happen before the next faire.. we are STILL slowly cranking out Inuyasha costumes!!!
This looks like loads of fun 😀
It really is!! Super blast!
That looks so fun 🙂
It was!! I cant wait for the next Faire! <3

Yeah, there is so much wonder and joy and imagination in a childhood at Faire!!
This was really cute to read! I’ve never been to a faire before, but would love to go. I am glad you were able to pass the experience down to your child. XO, Ellese

Yeah, Kearney is one of the better ones!
How fun!! I’ve been once and loved it.
Which one did you go to?
Ha! I’ve even been to a Renaissance fair although I confess I’ve never dressed up. Don’t have anything to wear! But overall, it’s the food that gets me! I tend to eat my way through it. But I think your CA fair’s are a bit cooler than are NY ones for sure =
Yeah, we are SUPER spoiled in California in regards to faires.. I remember the first couple times I visited Ren. Faires out of state I was so underwhelmed! Didnt realize how lucky I have been!
Wow, I’ve never come across events like this before. So cool!

It really was a blast! Thanks for stopping by Lenya!
Amazing photos. I’ve never worked a Renaissance Faire or even dressed up to attend, but I do enjoy going to them. There’s so much fun going on everywhere you look.
You should go in garb sometime.. whole different world!!
I’ve only been to one Renaissance faire and it was so much fun, my husband enjoyed it as well! You and your family look so cute in your costumes, I’m sure they had a wonderful time. This is such a great, fun, and educational tradition to pass down to your little ones! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a great week so far!

Sure, I will go check it out right now! <3
Wonderful photos! I’m glad that you were able to really experience the faire again, and share that with your kids! That’s so cool you grew up within the faire.
Yeah, I think we are back to stay!!!
I love love love the photos! I’ve always wanted to go to a ren faire, but never got around to it. They have one ever year about an hour away so it wouldn’t be too much trouble. It seems like it would be a lot of fun. Or at least make for a nice photo opportunity. 🙂
Yeah, this one is about an hour drive from my home… worth the drive for sure!!
I’ve always wanted to go to one of these fairs! It looks like a lot of fun and I love how so many people dress up (and you know they spent a lot of time on their costumes!). Beautiful photos!!

Yeah, the hubby and I are thinking about working on nobles for the whole family, and just the thought makes my head kind of explode a little bit, lol! <3

RIGHT?!! I always feel like such a creeper staring at all the lovely outfits, lol…
Fantastic photos! I can feel the frivolity and hear the folk music and taste the mead just looking at them! I didn’t attend my first RenFest until college, but I’ve tried to make an annual event of it ever since. It’s such a fun way to spend a Saturday. There’s so much to do and shop for and taste in such a small space. And it’s cool to see all these people coming together to escape into their imaginations a bit. How neat that your parents had a game booth. What fun memories and traditions to pass onto your own kids!

Yeah, that was a big part of my childhood, being able to so easily escape into my imagination and live in a fantasy world for the weekend.. I would insist on staying in costume all weekend, even overnight, using furs and cloaks to keep warm instead of getting into a regular jacket.. haha! It was so much fun!
Great photos, looks like such a festive and lively event. I’ve never been to one either, but want to check one out soon!
Ohhhhh, you really need to! Nothing like it! <3
I’ve never been to one but they look like lots of fun! Great pics Gingi! I think there is one on in Sydney too 🙂
Oh man, I bet there is! You guys have everything there! lol
Wow! amazing pretty! Glad you had fun and the pictures are amazing.

I can’t beat a good faire. I created the Texarkana Renaissance Faire five years ago but I had to retire at the ripe old age of 30 just last year. It’s tough work – especially with two babies! Now I’m just an adviser and cast and I play Daniella Noir the Gypsy Queen. I much prefer performing than directing! Maybe I’ll see you some day 🙂
