Have you ever been so preoccupied with something, that you overlook the obvious? Yeah, that pretty much defines me when it comes to my choice of tea kettles.
I have been making it a habit to have an herbal tea or green tea at least once a day. As a coffee girl through and through, this was initially quite the effort, but now I long for a warm cup of tea in the evenings.. especially as the weather is getting colder!
So how did I overlook the obvious? Well, if you are a regular reader of this blog, you know I have been systematically going through kitchen appliances, storage containers, and cookware to discuss how best to avoid harmful materials in the kitchen. Materials like BPA and aluminum.
Oh frack! ALUMINUM!! What is my tea kettle made out of?!?! (See what I mean, about missing the obvious??)
Why Aluminum is a Problem in the Kitchen
Aluminum is a very soft metal that is on the list of top priority toxins in the United States (a list put out every year by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry), and aluminum has been clearly identified as a toxin for the human nervous system, immune system and genetic system.
A study by the Australian Institute for Biomedical Research determined that drinking from and cooking with aluminum cookware causes aluminum to accumulate in the human brain! The body derives no benefits from aluminum, and in large quantities, it is indisputably harmful.
Leaching of aluminum is most likely to occur when the foods being cooked at high temperatures (boiling water in tea pot, anyone?) or when acidic foods are stored in aluminum lined containers or cooked in aluminum pans and pots.
While it is deemed enough of a short term non-threat in the United States that cookware is regularly made from aluminum, keep in mind that the sale of aluminum cookware is prohibited in Germany, France, Belgium, Great Britain, Switzerland, Hungary and Brazil!
So I have officially kicked my aluminum tea kettle with nylon handle to the curb, and I am super excited to share with you folks…. *drumroll*…
Before I launch into this awesome sauce tea kettle, let me take a moment to share a little bit about Primula with you folks! Primula specialized in all things teas. As they state on their website (CLICK HERE TO VISIT):
Primula are masters at transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary from the visual delight of flowering teas to an intoxicating aroma of fresh pressed coffee. Primula creates new items by exploring how people prepare beverages in different cultures and understanding the experience and ritual of these preparations. Understanding why people love that beverage is the first step in our design process. Products are designed to connect with that emotion.
Primula’s reputation is founded on creating quality products that make people happy to use or gift. Happy users are the key to Primula’s success, and hundreds of testimonials can confirm this buyer’s remark – “Once a Primula customer, always a Primula customer.”
Primula does it differently. And it must be working, as this family-owned business has been designing and creating consumer products since 1991.
So back to this bitchin tea kettle. This bad boy is simply a beauty! The Avalon Whistling Tea Kettle is:
– Constructed out of quality stainless steel
– Holds up to 2.5 quarts of liquid
– Features a stay-cool silicon handle that is soft to the touch and easy to grip
– The kettle has the loudest and prettiest whistle I have ever heard on a tea kettle to signal when your water is boiling
– The Avalon 2.5 Whistling Kettle is available in Bushed Stainless Steel, Matte Teal, Matte Blue and Matte Red, making them a great kitchen accent to suit any décor
My Thoughts on the Whistling Tea Kettle
So I literally received this in the mail YESTERDAY. When it arrived, I unwrapped it like a psycho toddler on Christmas morning (shredded cardboard packaging went flying in every direction) and I made way too many cups of tea between yesterday and today. So while I have formed some pretty good first impressions, and can compare the quality and usage to kettles I have owned in the past, I cannot speak to the possibility of long term use. (For instance, it is way too early to see how long the whistle release switch holds up, or if there might be chipping on the enamel with prolonged usage, etc. etc.)
First off, I hate to launch into a review by trash talking my previous kettle, but check out these images:
1) The nylon handle on my old model would get so hot that is actually MELTED from the heat of the stove! So the super soft silicon handle that did not even get warm with the hottest pot of boiling water was a HUGE upgrade!
2) The whistle area on my old kettle was a removeable tip that you had to manually remove. So in order to, ya know, actually pour your tea, you had to remove the tip by pulling on this little tab that was quite literally a fraction of an inch by the slits that were spewing steam. I got burned on this thing too many times to count. So the easy to release whistle switch on the handle of the Avalon is frikkin magical in the face. Easy, safe, and super cool!
The wide base of the tea kettle made the water heat up crazy fast (I would say about twice as fast as I am used to with my old kettle, and even faster than my old electric kettle.) The whistle is nothing short of deafening! (Yeah, baby! That’s what I’m talking about!) I was having so much fun taking pictures of the steam stream that was shooting near to the ceiling. Even my toddlers were in awe, clapping their hands and dancing around to the whistle the first time it went off!
I also like the larger lid which allows for easy filling with my water dispenser. Overall this kettle is built well, beautiful, and above all it is food safe! This is a keeper.

Fellow coffee lover here! I’m the same with tea when the weather gets cooler. That and now that I’m sick I’ve been enjoying my nightly green tea with honey. That’s a pretty neat looking kettle. It would totally match my kitchen appliances. At the moment I just heat up some water in a pot and pour into my diffuser. It’s been years since I’ve owned a tea kettle.
Interesting, I am not sure what my tea kettle is… but, I usually just heat up a cup in the microwave in a mug. I do have all stainless steel pots and pans, tho!!!
I’m a huge coffee drinker but I also enjoy a good cup of tea from time to time. I’ve been thinking about getting a tea kettle and now I know what to look for. Great tips, thanks.
Wow! I had no idea that aluminum poses a threat to our health, I’ve learnt something new here! I’ll definitely be avoiding it in the future, thankfully all my cookware is comprised of glass. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have the most amazing week ahead, beauty!
This reminds me that it’s years overdue that we get a new kettle… last time when we looked for one, there wasn’t a suitable one in any of the stores. My current one is an old hand-me-down from my mom and it tends to leak when I properly clean it 🙁
I should check if any of the stores carry the one you have or something similar nowadays. I’m no a big online shopper, but maybe it will have to come down to that :p

Having the tea kettle always on the burner kind of reminds me to put the coffee down and make some tea.. haha..

Yeah, I was pretty freaked out when I learned about aluminum.. it is insane just how many toxic substances find their way into our kitchens!
