Season one X-Files fans, we got your favorite mystery man covered!
Hubby and I came up with this twist on a classic cocktail to honor Deep Throat, from Season One of the The X-Files. (I am going to have to rename this blog The Booze Is Out There with all of the X-Files inspired boozy concoctions we keep coming up with while we embark on an epic binge watching of one of our favorite shows!)
For those of you who are confused to all heck, the character Deep Throat (played by Jerry Hardin) was an informant in the first season of The X-Files, leaking information to FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder to aid Mulder’s investigation of paranormal cases. The creation of Deep Throat was inspired by the historical Deep Throat, Mark Felt, who leaked information on the Watergate scandal.
This creation of ours is a modern twist on a classic New Orleans cocktail, the Vieux Carre. The Vieux Carre was named after the French term for the The French Quarter – le Vieux Carré (“Old Square”).
I decided to use the main base elements of this drink for this character inspired cocktail, because I wanted to go with a complex old world style scotch and cognac based cocktail.. something you would expect Watergate-era good old boys to be imbibing in the back rooms of the Pentagon.
And no government informant back room talk is complete without dark smoky shadows, so I threw in some liquid smoke for good measure (which is a really exciting umami element I have been seeing hit the cocktail scene, and I was itching to try!).
The effect was just what I was looking for! So cheers to our favorite first season martyr! This drink is freaking tasy. But remember…. Trust no one! Try it for yourself and see! 😉
How to Make:
Half shot of Scotch Whisky
Half shot of Cognac
Half shot of Sweet Vermouth
3-4 drops of Liquid Smoke
Pinch of Sea Salt
Lemon twist for garnish
Add the scotch, cognac and sweet vermouth to a shaker with ice.
Shake and strain into a highball glass with ice.
Add the drops of liquid smoke, and sprinkle a little bit of the sea salt over the liquid.
Garnish and enjoy!
Okay folks, I am having a blast with these X-Files inspired drinks, and as long as I am not boring you guys to heck, I am gonna keep playing around with these yummy ideas!
Oh I remember this! I was such a big X-Files fan. What a tribute drink! Very cool.
Thanks! I think this might be my drink of choice when watching the overarching story mythology episodes, haha..
Again, sounds like it’s really amazing recipe to try out 🙂
Thanks sweetie! <3
What a cool cocktail! I’m pretty boring when it comes to mixing cocktails. I always do either a Cuba Libre, a Mojito or a Screwdriver.
I have my fall back favorites, but I have become addicted to trying to mix up some new recipes for fun shows I love, haha..
Interesting post my dear, thank you for sharing 🙂
Thank YOU for stopping by!!! <3
Totally remeber that character. And loving this cocktail seris lol. I am a big fan of scotch.
Me toooooo!!! We ended up using the *good stuff* that hubby bought me for Christmas a looong time ago!
I love making cocktails. Maybe I should binge watch X-files! 🙂
Yes! You should! I dont know how much longer they will have it available on Netflix!
I absolutely love these, keep em coming! xD
However, when I think of the name/character Deep Throat, I am thinking of a drink so sour it will make your throat hurt xD So that after taking a sip, you’d go: yep, shouldn’t have trusted this one… xD
I think I will, lol! You will need to help me brainstorm some new ones! 😉
Uhmmm, sounds great!
Kisses, Paola.
You dont sound so sure…? lol
What an awesome idea, looks so cool!
Have a lovely day 🙂

Parece ser uma boa bebida!
Ótima sexta!
Beijo! ^^
<3 <3 Thanks for stopping by Amanda!
The liquid smoke must make it so interesting, especially if you use a peaty whisky.
What I REALLY wanted to use was a smoke gun to infuse the smoke flavor onto the glass and ice, but alas, I dont own one!
I usually only drink beer infrequently & occasionally wine so I’m not in the know with fancy mixed drinks. Amazing photos though.
Thanks Tony! I cannot abide beer, but I am really a wine junkie! lol!
I loved the idea of character inspired drink 🙂
Me too, I am really running with these, lol
How fun that you created a tribute cocktail to this character! The way you presented is so cool too!
Yeah, I tried to capture a real X-Files feel with the photos, haha
You’re so clever in creating this series, girl! Yet another great and interesting cocktail. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have the most amazing weekend ahead, beauty!

You too sweetie!! Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, fun idea! Thanks for sharing. I don’t drink alcohol, but I love people’s creations. 🙂
Good for you! <3
This is great, such an awesome tribute to the show!
Thanks Christine!! I am having so much fun making these!
It sounds good! I like doing themed recipes too, so this was fun to read. Do you watch the show “Once Upon a Time”? You should try to make drinks based on that show, like The Evil Queen’s Apple Martini or Cinderella’s Pumpkin Ale. 🙂
You know, I just couldnt get into Once Upon a Time! I really tried, too! It just didnt interest me.. weird, right?!
me ha gustado especialmente la foto

This drink looks tasty and I am sure it IS indeed tasty! I have never heard of adding liquid smoke to a drink, but I am sure it adds a little something to the taste.
