Today marks two full months of embarking on my weight loss journey! Here’s a quick recap on my progress, along with some insights I’ve gleaned along the way!
MONTH ONE
May 15, 2020 – June 15, 2020
12.8 pounds lost
DIET: I launched this month with South Beach Diet Phase 1 for two weeks, followed by South Beach Diet Phase 2 for two weeks. Aside from the initial bread and sugar cravings, and adjusting to eating around a family addicted to junk food, this month was fairly easy and I didn’t really feel hungry or have any struggles! The weight came off fairly steadily and easily!
FITNESS: I started to work out in the first week (cardio on my DDR machine) but found that I wasn’t used to the excess weight on my body (All the jiggling!! Nooooo!) so I figured I would just focus on diet and very gentle yoga. I did veeeeery gentle yoga sessions every other day for about 10 minutes each session.
WELLNESS: I’ve begun making meditation a priority each day – at least 10 to 15 minutes in the morning or mid-day. Focusing mainly on being present and less reactive to stressful situations.
BEAUTY: I signed up for Ipsy and have begun replacing my old and cheap beauty and skin care products with nicer items. When I get a new makeup that I’m not super familiar or comfortable with, I’m using it as a fun chance to pull up YouTube tutorials and learn some new tricks! Focusing mainly on getting my skin care routine dialed in and consistent, and breaking some bad beauty habits (like going to bed with my makeup on!).
MONTH TWO
June 15, 2020 – July 15, 2020
4.4 pounds lost
DIET: THIS MONTH. Ugh! So I did South Beach Diet Phase 2 for two weeks, which is when I lost the 4.4 pounds. Literally. The ONLY weight lost was from June 15 to July 1. On July 1st, for the last two weeks, I decided to try something different. I had been hearing some great things about Noom, and how it helps you to expand your food choices, while still maintaining a steady weight loss through calorie restriction and other helpful tips. So I signed up for the 2 week free trial of Noom, and gave it a go, reincorporating foods like breads and pastas and so on. I ate a 1200 calorie diet which was freaking murder. I was hungry ALL. THE. TIME. I felt massively deprived. And through it all, I didn’t lose a single pound. Basically, a HUGE waste of two weeks. Starting tomorrow I am back to South Beach Diet Phase 1. I’m ready to get this weight loss journey show back on the road!
FITNESS: This month was still just gentle yoga. During the last two weeks of this month (during my weight loss stall with Noom) I made a point of getting at least 5,000 steps per day in. I’m ready to get a little more intentional with my fitness at this point, so starting tomorrow (start of Month 3) I am committing to increase my yoga session times and intensity with progressive classes, along with slowly reintroducing DDR and cardio to get 10,000 daily steps in.
WELLNESS: My time spent in meditation had been tapering off and becoming sporadic this month, however, I have been finding myself using calming breaths and recentering myself during stressful times throughout my day. So, yay progress? As with the fitness, I am committing to get more intentional with my meditation sessions starting tomorrow when I go into Month 3. I am going to start taking meditation courses with Insight Timer and be more consistent with my morning journaling. My focus has also been on making my home a calm haven and healing space, which I am going to continue to expand on in Month 3.
BEAUTY: Absolutely in love with Ipsy! My makeup game has been taken to the next level, and I am really loving indulging my skin with yummy lotions and potions and creams. My biggest focus is getting my hair as healthy as possible so I can grow it out again, and dialing in my skin care routine to get the healthiest, clearest skin possible so my makeup free days can outnumber my makeup days!
